Both Anthracinum and Arsenicum will have bluish or blue/black eruptions
which doesn't seem to fit this case at all, imho, although this can happen
at a later stage of the developing sx picture.

What about Cantharis, eruptions here can also go black but in the early
stages will be vesicle like, burning or raw and smarting and there is
restlessness like Ars. Rhus tox also might fit - do you want to soothe the
part with heat or cold.

Phagedenic is rapidly spreading destructive ulceration of soft tissue.

Those have been my first thoughts, too. Using one of my favorite
rubric-finding techniques, it was an extraction on Anthracinum that gave me
those rubrics at the end, as I couldn't think what terms might describe the
way it was spreading; and I was starting to feel a bit arsenicum-y a while
back -- the stinging and worsening was making me feel anxious. Then I did
my castor oil thing and got busy and distracted :-)

Can you (or anyone) describe the difference between "malignant" and
"phagedenic"?

Thanks!
Shannon

Rep help for ulcerating cut?

(This wouldn't be considered an "eruption" in any case, would it?)
Your def of phagedenic seems to suit this, depending on what's meant by
"rapid" (and actually it's healing now, since the castor oil! Which is
quite a surprise to me! But I still want to understand the applicable
rubrics and etc.!). That is the part that I found most upsetting, the way
that (based on last time and what had happened this time before the castor
oil) the raw/depressed/oozing area kept spreading and spreading, and seemed
to spread first *beneath* the skin, then eat its way up thru it. Not
something I've had before!!! So then does "phagedenic ulcer" seem to be the
right rubric, or do you think of a better one?
Thanks,
Shannon

I tend to call any tissue breakdown, activity, discharge etc that is on the
surface or near surface of the skin to be an eruption but I take your point
- the fact that the area is 'depressed' inwards would suggest ulcer, so I
would include phagedenic ulcer but would place as much if not more emphasis
on the modalities, sensations, cause and appearance rather more than this
specific description name.

IMHO ulcers need not be black or blue to be indicative of Ars. If it
is present it is more suitable- that's all. It is mentioned that
though Shannon has had other types of cuts it is only after a cat's
scratch and after a mosquito bite that the ulcers have appeared. This
is a significant causation. In fact Shannon should probably
concentrate more on constitutional factors. In this instance that
there is a recurrence and the fact that the ulcers are taking a
typical picture will surely point to the constitutional nature.

if this had happened many many times and Shannon was now in a definite
'never been well since' state then I would say it was a chronic state. But
only twice is hardly chronic - what needs to be cured now is are the sx
pertaining to the bite. Maybe deeper case taking afterwards if so concerned
about it.

Keep it simple - treat the sx.

Shannon,

Your ulcerating cut may indeed be too close for comfort to necrotizing
bacterial infections. Have you thought of treating with nosodes? I've
successfully used
Staphlococcinum and/or Streptococcinum in high potency on some pretty nasty
infections -- but only after an assay of the wounds showed one or the
other -- or both! (This was, of course, after the indicated remedies failed
to help.)

Your description sounds very much like a staph infection, but find out what
you're dealing with first.

Peace,
Cinnabar

Thanks Cinnabar,
A good suggestion, tho at this point it's nearly healed up -- from having
castor oil smeared on it :-/

But for future reference, I would love to hear your experience. Can you
describe the situations you saw, and what potency and repetition you used?

Thanks,
Shannon
