I am following two courses of study. I started with a local homeopath, Tom
Heard, who took us through the theoretical fundamentals and is now leading
us though real clinical cases. He also reviews our private cases with us.
We are learning to manage case. Because we have Tom's support we are trying
our hand at diagnosis and case management, too.
Also, I am studying by correspondence with Raymond Edge at the Toronto
School of Homeopathic Medicine. I was amazed to find 3 schools in Toronto.
TSHM teaches classical homeopathy and the other two schools are break always
from one another and seem to teach a medicalized form of homeopathy. I've
seen no mention of anything more religious than Hahnemman's deep
spirituality. I felt that classical homeopathy was really important.
I surprised myself because when Raymond asked my to first write about
Burning in Sulphur and diffusion in Phosphorus, I turned to nutrition and
biochemistry textbooks. After studying the books on the Periodic tables and
families (Jan Scholten and Sankaren) as well as hearing Vermeulen's
"interviewing a substance," (a taped lecture) it was clear that there is a
very biological basis to homeopathy. None of this was related to the
course. Now I am struggling with very armature understandings of medical
physiology. Because I am trying to understand rubrics and categorize them
by biological phenomenon, the reading seems very straightforward.
I will have to take university courses in anatomy and physiology, pathology
and maybe nutrition. Anyway, all this sweat will eventually add up to a wet
towel.
I am very happy to be spending my time with books rather than commuting to
class although I would love such sociability too. By writing, I am able to
follow my thoughts. I often meet dead-end, and weeks later after the paper
writing, find possible solutions. Raymond doesn't correct my faults in
scientific understandings. :-He encourages all forms of creativity. I am
having a great time writing stories where I use remedies as personalities.
The last one was "Nat Mur at the Cinderella Ball." I am finishing the 3rd
lesson and need to finish 7 by September
( Very slow going.A third method that I use are friends in the Pittsburgh area who are also
studying. We meet in small and larger groups and mostly communicate over
the phone and email. We share a lot of stuff, personal and professional.
Studying with Tom helps us see one another more frequently but students with
a strong desire to study is the most important element.
