The Avogadro number is named after Amadeo
Avogadro (1776-1856) who made his observation in
1811. THe figure was standardized in 1865 by J.
Loschmidt (1821-1895) as 6.023 X 10 to the 23rd.
This is the number of molecules contained in one
mole of substance. One molecule of a remedy
substance in a mole is roughly the equal of 24X.
To understand the enormity of this dilution,
here's an example I got from an old homeopathic
journal published by the AFH in 1930 or so....
Take a big 8 oz drinking glass.
Fill it with red molecules.
Pour it into the sea near the northern US coast.
Now-- stir the ocean.
Go to the ocean off Australia.
Dip a clean glass in, and fill it.
There should be at least ONE molecule of red in that glass.
IF the dilution was greater, you might find that
some random samples of water held no red
molecules. At that point, the dilution is beyond
the Avogadro constant.
