Do not prescribe when not necessary
Hello,
I have seen some homeopaths that think LM potencies can be prescribed very often and there will be no problem. They think they can safely do everything they want with LM potencies. But it is not true. Here I quote a piece of David Little's article "A Comparison of the 5th and 6th Organon and the C and LM Potency". You can read it on http://www.simillimum.com/Thelittlelibr ... cy%20.html.
"When the daily dose is "not necessary" it will rapidly produce an over medicated state in which there will be aggravations or accessory symptoms that change natural symptom pattern. Hahnemann rarely used the daily dose for very long and always interspersed his doses with a period of placebo and a period of waiting and waiting and watching. The idea that Hahnemann gave the daily dose of the LMs for months or years is a complete myth as proven by his writings and Paris case journals.
The LM potency will cause aggravations and accessory symptoms just like every other homoeopathic remedy. The Paris casebooks show that Hahnemann constantly alternated placebos with the remedy to control the power of the LM remedies. In his journals he never gave the alternate day dose for very long without a period of giving placebos and waiting and watching. The 6th Organon offers a guidebook on how to use the LM potency scale safely and effectively through opening in the lowest degrees [0/1., 0/2., 0/3, etc.] and then ascending through the potency range [0/30]."
Sincerely,
Feras Hakkak

Re: Do not prescribe when not necessary
I was once told that if, while taking my LM -- daily -- should an
aggravation arise, I could choose whether I wanted to back off "and take the
easy route", or take it even oftener and "burn thru it faster". Fortunately
I gave up on the remedy (and the homeopath, for unrelated reasons) before
being tempted to try that.
Does anyone know where this idea comes from ("burning thru it faster" by
overdosing even more aggressively)? It sure doesn't come from the Organon,
and thte idea makes me cringe!

Re: Do not prescribe when not necessary
The idea *might* come from the way some people react on Bach (or maybe
other) flower remedies. Personally, I'm not in favor of working this way,
'forcing' a Bach remedy to work, but it is possible to force a crisis with
these remedies. Bach remedies can be very effective, and it would be a
mistake to qualify them as 'soft' in any way; however, compared to
homeopathic remedies, I would qualify our 'straight' remedies as sort of
more basic, and the more basic you get, the more precise and careful you
need to be (because there is a lot 'on top' of these basics, and real
mistakes on a basic level are not corrected easily). It seems the human
organism can cope rather well with forcing a crisis with Bach remedies.
However, stop, wait and see would always be my first thought if a
homeopathic remedy, in any potency, including LM potencies, seems to be
doing something/anything. LM's are in no way soft.

Re: Do not prescribe when not necessary
i have seen aggravations/exacerbations with LM's. I usually back off the rx w/lower potency.
i was always taught that healing should be gentle, quick and not harmful. although
quick is always possible, i think we can certainly work for gentle.
to the contrary, i have heard homeopaths lecture about the need to go through the aggravation
as an inevitable part of some people's process of healing. i think each case needs to be
evaluated individually and responded to with care, insight and kindness

Re: Do not prescribe when not necessary
Hi Shannon,
Will you tell whether you took the LM dry or in water?. The dry dose,
if repeated, will cause medicinal aggravation like the X 's and C's.
But the water dose prepared with a little alchohol as a preservative
if shaken and had must not have aggs due to the gradually varying
potency. Not long ago we discussed this and I posted an article from
Dr Weitbrecht's site. The dry dose in whatever potency scale, if
repeated daily is injurious. this much is inferred from the organon.
Somewhere in the maunal of a software I read this.
1. Repeat frequently if you are prescribing on pathological sx or
singlr sx.
2.Repetition not necessary if you are prescribing on characteristic
sx.
Or is your experience better ?

Re: Do not prescribe when not necessary
Hi Venkat,
I have never taken LMs dry.
But LMs in water can also bring on aggs -- very definitely!!!! My first
experience with them was when our family homeopath prescribed them for my
then-toddler son. He had a ***HORRIBLE*** aggravation, was crazy
off-the-walls hyper and insane for about 36 hours after each dose. And my
instructions had been to dose him daily (gag). When I reduced his size of
dose by about half, and his frequency to about one-quarter, improvement
settled in quick and smooth, no further aggravations. So LMs in
water/alcohol *can* indeed bring on aggravations!!! Actually, I'd asked
this (wonderful, but not LM-literate) doc about LMs previously, and he said
that they all in that clinic had given up on LMs because they saw too many
aggravations. After our experience I found out why -- because they gave too
large a dose, and repeated routinely, daily, and did not individualize
posology. David Little's information was our lifesaver!
Your note to repeat frequently if prescribing on pathological or single sxs
makes sense, tho I would in every case base frequency upon observation of
what's *needed*, esp. after our unhappy results from lack of
individualization!
Cheers,
Shannon

Re: Do not prescribe when not necessary
Thanks Tanya,
I'm familiar with the "need to go thru the aggravation" argument with ref to
single doses, but have you heard it also with reference to LMs? (Oh yeah,
I've seen LMs aggravate!!! But we simply reduced the dosing, and the agg
faded.)

You do NOT go thru the aggravation with an LM.
You take the LM often to the point of aggravation and then STOP!
Read David Little's LM information as Shannon referred to
And usually once the aggravation has stopped you wait. If symptoms return
then you go to the next level of LM.
Dry C potencies is probably what you are talking about, but not LMs - never

Re: Do not prescribe when not necessary
sheri, i was not promoting 'going thru the aggravation. quite the contrary, if you read my
statement completely. i was only reporting a particular perspective out there that i came
across in my training. if this dialogue is meaningful, then i think it is valid to portray what
ideas have been promoted for others to learn from.
