Hi there, I seem to be lost with this case and am
looking for ideas/another perspective that I may have
missed.
Male, late forties
P/C: ADD
- hard to concentrate and comprehend what is read
- hard to keep his mind on anything, even pleasurable
activities ? mind either goes blank or is off thinking
of other things
- bad days every 4th/5th day for 2-3 weeks, then
pattern will change
- left/right incoordination (neurofeedback has helped
somewhat in the past)
- can?t keep up with the pace of the world (his words)
History:
- adopted when 6 months old (mother was unable to keep
him, doesn?t know who his father is)
- adoptive parents not loving ? no connection to them
(his words)
- found out about his adoption when he was 7
- a/mother ? teacher, domineering ? he felt inadequate
& unable to live up to her academic expectations for
him
- a/father ? farmer ? he (patient) hated living on a
farm ? remembers being made to watch sheep being
slaughtered ? hated the cruelty
- felt that parents never trusted his abilities
- says there was not a lot of love around when growing
up
Mental/emotional:
- can?t handle people with strong personalities ?
can?t think quick enough to stand his own ground ?
instead lashes out verbally
- lacks tact ? often says inappropriate things ? no
social skills (his words)
- cries easily ? very emotional
- can?t handle his own emotions ? breaks down easily
under pressure
- low self-esteem ? feels inadequate about his ability
to do a job to a necessary standard
- very conscientious at work ? very concerned about
the effect of his mistakes on customers (he sorts &
delivers mail, and has been known to go and apologise
to them)
- loves classical music ? ?feels the music?
- loves art, photography
- loves bonsai (but gets frustrated by fiddly pruning
& having to wait for a result)
Physical:
- scoliosis
- periodic bladder infections due to urethral
stricture and slightly enlarged prostate ? has had
antibiotics in the past, but has also managed it with
herbals (saw palmetto, epilobium)
- psoriasis on chest, elbows & legs
- flatulence ? lower intestines
- heartburn ? when stressed - > eating
- eats when nervous
- ear infections from humidity (fungal ? swells inside
? can?t lay on it & results in deafness)
-
Vaccinations:
- normal childhood shots
- tetanus (adult)
- flu ? 4 or 5 years ago
Food:
- milk intolerance (affects him mentally, not
physically)
- sweet preference
- aversions: cucumber (too bitter), vegemite, peanuts
Drinks:
- water, soy milk, green tea, ovaltine, coffee
Fears/phobias:
- not being good enough to provide for him and his
wife
- that wife will do something silly and he will never
see her again (suicidal PMT in the past)
- spiders
Remedies given:
- 18 Oct 02 - Sulph 1M
- 15 Nov 02 ? Calc
- 25 Nov 02 ? Lyc 200C
- 12 Dec 02 ? Lyc 1M
- 15 Jan 03 ? Lyc 1M
- 13 Feb 03 ? Lyc 1M
- 7 Mar 03 ? Lyc 1M ? no improvement after this dose
- 4 Apr 03 ? Bar-c 1M
- 2 May 03 ? Bar-c 1M ? phone call from patient ?
remedy not working
- 6 May 03 ? Lyc 200C
- 23 May 03 ? Lyc 200C
- 25 Jun 03 ? Lyc 200C
- 23 Jul 03 ? Lyc 1M
- 12 Aug 03 ? Thuj 1M
- 6 Sep 03 ? Lyc 30C
- 24 Sep 03 ? Nux-v 1M
- 30 Sep 03 ? Sulph 200C
- 4 Nov 03 ? Carc 1M
- 12 Nov 03 ? Calc
- 17 Nov 03 ? Lyc
- 16 Dec 03 ? Op 10M
- 8 Jan 04 ? Mag-c 1M
Observations/comments:
- On a physical level things are going very well ? has
had no bladder problems and is no longer taking any
herbals for this. He has also noted that since
homoeopathy he hasn?t had any seasonal colds, flu etc.
Psoriasis has neither improved nor worsened (doesn?t
seem to be an issue).
- There are a few home issues ? this is the second
marriage for both him and his wife, and she has very
deep feeling of guilt about leaving her first marriage
and her children, and he has problems handling her bad
times. She has had very severe PMT in the past and he
is terrified of losing her (I am also treating her and
the PMT is much less these days).
- When talking about his interests he tends to mention
people such as Leonardo da Vinci, Beethoven, David
Baily as though he wants to be as good as them, but
knows he?s not and therefore feels a failure. If
given any encouragement, he will then say that his
brain doesn?t work the same as other people?s and
therefore he couldn?t do (x,y or z).
Another thing that has come out is regarding his
dislike for farm life - not only was it hatred of the
cruelty, but he recounted a time when he was left in
charge and got very frustrated with the animals - he
said he had no patience with them.
On the one hand he can't keep up with the pace of the
world, and yet there seems to also be an impatience
(animals and the bonsai).
- This is a very insistent man, and maybe I?m not
managing the case very well ? he will ring me when
he?s having a bad day and say the remedy has stopped
working and he is quite insistent. The last two
remedies were aimed at the possibility of early
trauma/abandonment. Does anyone have any thoughts as
I now seem to be covering the same ground at each
consultation.
Look forward to any comments.
Kind regards Sue

ADD case
Re: ADD case
Dear Sue, I kept thinking of Scorpion when I read this case (which I have
edited a bit).
Perhaps you would like to read about this rx (the cucumbers would have to be
substituted by courgettes - same family of food though)
Hope useful, best wishes, Joy

Re: ADD case
Hi Joy,
Can you say a bit about what says "scorpion" to you? I do indeed see some
elements that I know are prominent in scorpion, but this seems such a
"softer" picture than I have heard for scorpion. I'd love to hear your
further thoughts about how the remedy might fit here.
Thanks!

Dear Shannon, indeed Scorpion can have a 'soft' side to them - being a
remedy that understands the notion of being scorned so well themselves they
can easily empathise with this. They can feel deeply unloved and want a lot
of sympathy but coupled with this is a great fear of something terrible
going to happen, overwhelmed by terror, changeable moods - one minute
amiable, the next extremely irritable and argumentative especially with the
family. These moods can be rage like to the point of wanting to kill or
destroy (remember this is a species which is both down trodden - literally,
feared and yet can sting really badly - this is their defence mechanism).
They get confused about their role in life, who they are. Absent minded and
a poor memory. They cannot apply themselves due to this confusion, they feel
detached and apathetic or very irritable, aggressive and impatient. They
become disappointed with themselves and others.
They want to be great but due to the down trodden feelings they cannot rise
to this - they live on the ground, feelings of being lowly, hide away in
cracks, but they still want to be better than this.
This 'either/or' situation is seen in the time dimension as well - either
hurried and impatient or cannot keep up, totally confused, apathetic and
disconnected.
They can have panic attacks (hence the frequent calls to the homeopath??)
and their impatience will make then demand this and that.
They have some pretty strong and weird dreams - all about being persecuted,
murdered etc.
They love music and generally have a sensitivity to noise. Many noises in
the ear and cotton wool like sensations - deafness
Lots of nausea and problems with food, belchings - the whole alimentary
canal is effected. Crave chocolate, averse to courgettes (I extended this to
the whole cucurbit family which would include cucumbers in this case). Lots
of bile in the cases, hence the aversion to bitter food??
Fear of other insects?? (spiders).
The hard outer skin of the scorpion is easily crushed so back problems
around the vertebrae will be part of the sx picture.
Skin has itching red eruptions.
Lot of urging to urinate but passing only a few drops (stricture??)
Not sure about the milk intolerance.
Hope useful, best wishes Joy

Re: ADD case
Dear Joy,
Thanks for your thoughts, and info on Scorpion. It's
not a remedy I'd thought about and I can see a lot of
it there, but like Shannon, I see him as fairly
mild/soft - it seems he frustrates people (esp his
wife) because he can't be relied on to remember to do
anything and will also have memory blanks when he is
doing something - his 'lashing out verbally' is an end
point (probably mixed in with tears) - I wouldn't
imagine him ever getting more aggressive than that.
Another thing - he is always very curious about what
I'm going to give him & asks what it's going to do.
Also when I'm looking up things, he'll say 'what are
you thinking about for me now". I think 'reliance on
the practitioner' is somewhat relevant here.
Anyway, will keep you posted.
Thanks once again,
King regards, Sue

Just One thought:
This particular attitude of knowing what ails him and
what will be his medicine was interpreted by Dr Sehgal
as 'Light Desire For'. On this particular rubric and
the represented remedies he has written a 100 page
booklet.
If you ask me why he chose the rubric- Dr Sehgal took
the meaning of each word from the dictionary..
Even though I do not use his method now, this struck a
memory chord and the reply is the result.
Regards
Venkat

Re: ADD case
Hi Venkat,
Just one quick thought, that taking "the meaning of each word from the
dictionary" is NOT a good final arbitor for rubrics, as this was not
necessarily the basis for their creation. I'd be interested to hear if
someone on the list has used this rubric according to his indications, and
how they've found it to work out?
In my experience *lots* of people are anxious to understand more about many
things, e.g. their own health issues. Should every chronically curious
person be given one from this teeny group of remedies??? Sigh, I suppose I
should read the book before commenting...
