Autos (off subject)

Post by Julian Winston »

Was talking to a homeopath I know in the USA and we got to talking
about what kind of cars we have... She was wondering how many
homeopaths drive "luxury" cars. So I thought I'd ask. Certainly NOT a
homeopathic topic unless we can decide that those who drive a Rolls
are certainly Platina....

She, by the way, drives a BMW 320i and I have a Mercedes SKL 200.

Julian -- well you and your friend are considerably more upscale than most
homeopaths I know. My car is a 10 year old Subaru. But in Berkeley there's
little need to drive, so I put on less than 1000 miles a year. :-))

I think it was in 1982, the NCH had its Annual Meeting in Washington,

On Sunday, Alan was not to be found. Someone inquired after him, and
was told he had taken the afternoon up to go to Baltimore to look at
an Aston-Martin. The reply to this was, "An Aston-Martin? Is Alan
doing allopathy?"

Very funny!

Gee, Julian, how do you afford the repair bills? This homeopath drives a well-used Dodge Caravan (I camp out and do old-home restoration work). Previous cars included a multicolored VW bug (guess which decade that represented!). But the closest I ever came to yuppiedom was a Saab, and that was many years ago.

Peace,

and I drive a 2002 White Chevrolet Tahoe - 4-wheel drive for the safety-factor during the torrential rains we get
in South Florida, Sun Roof for catching a breeze without totally messing my "coiffure" LOL, and a big enough space
for either my scuba equipment or my 3 Rottweilers to ride!

WHEW! Too many remedies to count???? heh heh heh

Didn't realize this thread would become so popular... I sent the attached
email to Julian yesterday.

Adding to this:

The Honda Civic SW is metalic blue, and the Subaru is silver.

I seem to always think of 'portability', maybe the ability, if necessary, to
sleep in the car, that it can haul all kinds of stuff, and that it is
comfortable to drive and ride. Strong, solid and reliable transportation is
what I am looking for in a car...

Julian,

After driving a Honda Civic StationWagon for 15 years, now I drive a Subaru
Forester SW also. Would have stayed with the Honda, which is here also,
but we moved to the Midwest and I needed a stronger car for the snow...

I'm really more of a homeopathy student than a homeopath, but am a
highly experienced midwife who has used only Naturopaths, TCM Dr's, or
Homeopaths (depending upon availability) for my own and family's health
care for over twenty-five years.

This thread has been fun and interesting, and put me in mind of an
exchange with an old high-school chum who looked me up last year. We
went to school together what seems like a long time ago now.... forty
years or so. While I jumped on the alternative train when it came along,
he went the very conservative. traditional route of college, med school,
and a highly lucrative anesthesiology practice. He's now a retired
multi-millionaire, while I slog away for the state as a social worker to
pay the monthly bills. It's quite amazing that he and I can converse
whatsoever, since we are so opposite on most every point of possible
conversation: politics, health care, religion.... I think we have a
mutual tolerance only because we were kids together.
Anyway, last year our school had its 40th reunion, and we were asked to
answer simple questions to give a "profile." At the time, I judged the
multiple-choice questions as rather simplistic, thinking it would be
difficult to tell anything much about anyone from the answers. After
reading the responses here, I think I may have been quite wrong about
that!

One of the categories was Type of Car, and the choices given were:
Luxury, SUV, Truck, Family, Compact.... (I think there may have been
others, but forget just now).

My friend accosted me in a rather upset way after he read my profile,
because I had checked off "Luxury." You see, he's a lover of fine cars,
can afford and thus owns a Mercedes (one of the big ones), a very nice
older Beamer, a fully restored '63 Chevy Impala, and a Dodge Durango!
And he still talks about other cars he wants to own.

Mine is "only" a 14 year-old Volvo, but hey! It's a 740 Turbo with
leather seats! Dark blue with black interior (not one of those ugly
Volvo colors). It's my first-ever automatic, and it has heated seats,
a/c, sunroof, CD player, and cool wheels. I love it. I stopped looking
at other cars in a wishful way after I got it.

I've tried to explain to my friend that it's a Luxury to me, but he just
shakes his head. He really thinks I misrepresented my station in life.
Too funny. Sometimes I find allopaths really easy to tease. He prides
himself on being very "scientific" (and of course, I'm not in his
estimation), but I told him he has no understanding of relativity.
