Migraine Case

Post by Rhonda Bird »

Could I get input from the group please? This is a case of a 41 y.o female.
Headaches and migraines ever since birth of second child 7 yrs ago. Both
pregnancies (2 yrs apart) resulted in being induced due to high blood
pressure, pre-eclampsia, caesarian. Close to being diabetic with both
pregnancies. Interesting thing about headaches is up until 2 months before
coming to see me 6 weeks ago, she would get a headache every month for 5
days before her period, then the 2 months prior to seeing me, they would
arrive AFTER the period, but still lasting for 5 days. She gets a migraine
usually every month, for which the pain is sharp, can be anywhere in her
head, but usually accompanied by very tense neck and shoulder muscles.
Sometimes she can have nausea with the migraines, sometimes vomits. she has
been heavily medicated allopathically with injections and migraine-type
drugs (Imigran is one she uses) in the past 7 yrs. The headaches she gets
for 5 days straight seem to occur a lot across the eyes, either side, wakes
with them and goes to bed with them. Light burning sensation in head, all
over the head at times. Seem to be >pressure into the temples, > for hard
massage of the neck and shoulders; . Very frequent urination. Thirstless in general.
Loves very hot weather. Loves to work. Tends to be cynical than
sympathetic. Can be patient with her children, otherwise impatient.
Keeping time is important. Likes to be left alone when unwell. Loves
exercise++++Wanting to lose weight, (although I couldn't see where from!).
Says she has no stress, great relationship with husband, loves her kids,
(and I believe her!). Experienced no vertigo while pregnant, but does
now. Bites her nails pretty chronically. Has lots of dreams, crazy and
vivid. Talks in sleep a lot. Sleeps on side and stomach. If she eats late
at night, this can result in a nightmare. Has some trouble falling asleep,
waking around 5 a.m. when kids wake her. Feels much better for being busy
and working. Loves horror movies, and reads a lot of thriller style books.
Does not have money worries as has come into quite a lot of money.
Prescription: Sepia LM 0/2 b.d.

2nd follow-up 3 wks later:
Had a migraine after Sepia, then a headache which lasted 10 days. Pain
above or on the eyes, mostly right sided. Her period is due in a week's
time, so that would be generally when she would get the headaches..
Urination not so frequent. Dreaming a lot. Sleeping on stomach. Swelling
in fingers and feet has decreased significantly. Had one occasion where
felt a headache coming on, so took drops 3hourly, which prevented it
developing.
Prescription: Continue Sepia, and Berberis in herbal tincture form.

3rd visit today (3weeks later):
Had a headache for 5 days, this time before her period(last 2 months were
after period, which is unusual for her). Not dreaming as much. Sleep much
urination. Drinking more water, although says she still isn't particularly
thirsty. Headaches R to L, and went into back of head. Had one migraine and
couldn't work for a day. Wondering if Teflon on her cookware is the cause
of her headaches as that is when she started using cookware (7 yrs ago,
along with the birth of second child).

Haven't yet prescribed, as I'm not finding any rubrics that have headaches
lasting for 5 days - does anyone else? When they appear is also
significant - mostly always before menses, then stop when the flow begins.
Is quite loquacious(yep, thought of Lachesis!), fine, blond hair with a
reddish tinge, and red flushed cheeks. Sepia still seems indicated, but
would have thought the headaches may have altered ??(So apart from a lot of
headaches lasting 10 days instead of the usual 5, I'm not sure????). Can
find all manner of rubrics for headaches every x number of days etc, but not
5..(she says in her most frustrated tone!). Can anybody help??(please!)

Thankyou for all your thoughts,
Rhonda B.

Dear Rhonda, I admit to not spending much time on this but I kept thinking
about Ferrum met - affinity to the circulation, poor distribution of blood,
relaxed blood vessels causing haemorrhages = >>> during menses, flushed face
especially cheeks, hammering, pulsating congestive headaches, <<< noise, <<<
back of head and left eye, stinging sensation in head (not burning like you
write), has some periodicity (perhaps not enough), rheumatics in the
shoulder, trembling limbs, swollen hands and feet, copious urination and
involuntary sometimes.

Might be worth reading up on. Also if she has been heavily medicated in the
past/present, you should enquire as to how much this has altered the picture
of the headaches.

Hope useful, best wishes, Joy

Hi Rhonda
What potency was your second prescription of Sepia?
I would stay with the sepia NBWS childbirth, and go for a higher potency
like 30 200 or 1M use all the possibilities before changing rx. Keep the
case simple. Of course look for any other modalities and also diet. Blood
group very important.
Best Regards

Hi Rhonda,
Why did you choose that dosing schedule for the use of an LM? Also is she
currently on any type of contraceptive?

I had a notion to review Cory & Gel.
