I have been in lurking-mode for a while now, but hope to be able to be a
bit more active on the list in the next couple of months.
I've got a difficult case at the moment.
The patient is a ten y.o. boy with severe eczema.
Until recently he was under allopathic medication, the usual mix of steroids
and anti-histamines, with daily wrapping of the affected areas, plus daily
doses of antibiotics for a staph-infection he contracted in hospital, so now
the areas that he scratches are getting infected as well.
The eczema started after his triple antigen vaccinations. It started as a
fine rash, which gradually got worse over the years. Full scale allopathic
treatment started about 5 years ago.
Even with the allopathic treatment the eruptions never have been fully
repressed. When the mother came to me with the boy, now three weeks ago, he
had infected lesions on arms, legs, abdomen and back. The lesions were
swollen, red, covered in pussy newly formed scabs.
The mother had decided that allopathic suppression was not going to help her
son, so she, together with her son, decided to discontinue the allopathic
treatment.
I have given the boy a few remedies, see below.
Before the mother came to see me she had tried a few remedies on
recommendation of friends and family.
She had given him a Sulphur complex, which had not done anything, followed
by a Rhus-tox 30c (dosage day 1 4x daily, day 2 3 x daily, day 3 and
following 2 x daily for 3 weeks), which had given some relief.
The initial symptoms were (27 November 2003):
Eruptions < cold wind
Eruptions coming on in different locations in groups
Pain like needles sticking in
< salt water (but infected areas would sting, so symptom not that relevant?)
hot otherwise
Feels the cold in general
Itch < bedtime, < at night, < heat of bed
Eruptions weeping clear and sticky but get infected (yellowish pus)
The boy is affectionate, but can also get angry. When angry he screams and
throws things.
He has fear of the dark, loves climbing (no fear of heights) and fear of
Michael Jackson (finds him scary to look at (which I find understandable))
He does not like consolation, but likes cuddles with mum (although he hurts
too much most of the time)
He likes sweets, fireworks and other noisy things, like motorbikes and loud
music. He likes to go fast too, even if that means he'll have to put up with
the cold wind generated by that, which will affect his eruptions.
No strong likes or dislikes of food but likes seafood.
He has had his tonsils out when 2 ½ after chronic tonsillitis.
He is a loud snorer
He reacts to peanutbutter (but not peanuts), carrots and kiwifruit with a
rash in the face.
He sleeps from 8.30 onwards, and wakes up cranky and irritable
He is always hungry and likes to snack.
In the office he was very inquisitive, and touched a number of things and
asked questions about them. He started drawing on the blackboard I have in
my office making geometrical patterns filling the whole board.
He was quite bossy to his mum.
Seeing that he had some success with the Rhus-tox 30c I gave him Rhus-tox
200 in waterdose.
Second visit 5 December 2003:
There has been no improvement at all with the Rhus tox 200 c, so I guessed
the Rhus tox was close but not close enough. Like Shannon I think that the
lower potencies can work even if they are not the similimum, but higher
potencies have to be more on the ball.
At this point the symptoms had not changed, only in intensity (got worse:
more pain, more itch, more infection).
As he had had the Sulphur remedy already without success I decided to try
Lycopodium 30 c in water.
Third visit 10 December 2003:
The pain had got worse again, but symptoms had not really changed. I asked
the mother to find out what had been in the Sulphur combination. It turned
out that the Sulphur combo was a combination of Kali mur, Kali sulph, Calc
sulph and Sil, all in 6x, so he had not had Sulphur at all.
Prescription Sulphur 30 c in water
Fourth visit 12 December 2003:
The Sulphur works for a little while (reduces pain and itching) but then
stops. It only worked for an hour.
Prescription Sulphur 200c
Mother calls at night. The 200c does not do anything and she is getting
desperate. I ask her to wait.
Fifth visit 15 December 2003:
According to the mother the Sulphur has not relieved at all: A rash has come
up in his face, he is in more pain and there is more inflammation.
To me it looks now more like an eczema rash than before (the mother has
called it eczema all the time, but the distribution and appearance are not
conform classic eczema).
The patient does not look very well. He has not slept much, because of the

Thank you for you suggestion. I did have a look at Nitric Acid. He does not have the negative attitude I expect of a Nit-ac, and the pain as he describes it is more like a sting of an insect than splinter-like, as I understand the Nit-ac pain to be.

Just a thought, have a look at Sepia Symptom numbers 1435-1440 to see if
they relate to the case:

*Pin-pricks over the skin, in the evening in bed, when he gets warm.
*Itching in the face, on the arms, the hands, the back, on the hips, the

Have you looked at DTP - the triple Vaccination in potency if this is the aetiology? I had a child whose eczema improved dramatically after Psorinum 30.

In the days of Hahnemann and Kent most of the allopathic drugs were also
used as remedies. The idea was that anything that could affect health could be
used as a remedy. It may also be that treatments with allopathic drugs produce
a sort of miasm or tendency toward a certain set of symptoms. Now there are
many more drugs being used than there were in the nineteenth century. Many of
these have been used on several generations of patients. It is likely that
once drugs like cortisone, penicillin, valium, theodur, etc. have been more
fully proven we will find that they are among the polycrests of today.
Perhaps the most common type of treatment that the country's population
has been exposed to is vaccinations. This article, that I presented to the
Hahnemann College class, looks at some poisoning symptoms from one of these,
the Diphtheria s Pertussis s Tetanus vaccine.
How are vaccines different than naturally acquired ailments?
Vaccinations inject massive amounts of vaccine preparations directly into
the body, thus by-passing the outer defenses.
It has been proposed that vaccines use a much larger amount of the plasma
cells and lymphocytes than exposure to wild disease.
There is indisputable evidence that many instances of mental and nervous
disorders are caused by immuno-logical aberrations.
There is a substantial and growing body of evidence that modern vaccines
can result in chronic immune disfunction. These effects are often delayed,
indirect, and masked.
Well known that a state of anergy follows vaccinations (for example
suppressed TB sensitivity)
Numerous authors have described the occurrence of multiple sclerosis
following the administration of vaccines against small pox, typhoid fever,
paratyphoid fever, tetanus, poliomyelitis, tuberculosis, influenza, and
rabies. Systemic lupus erythematous has also been reported after
vaccinations.
In a follow up study of the swine flu immunization to elderly people who
had a history of chronic disorders, six out of seven people with allergies
reported that their allergies worsened; one of twenty with hypertension noted
increased blood pressure; one of nine diabetics developed a cold and increased
blood pressure; two of nine with gout developed a cold and a gout attack; and
one person with parkinson's noted increased clumsiness.
In a study of diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus vaccine only 7% of those
receiving the vaccine had no untoward reactions; 54% had fevers and 82%
exhibited behavior changes.
In addition to the vaccines DPT contains formaldehyde, a derivative of
mercury (thimerosal), and aluminum phosphate.
The following symptoms are excerpted from Harris Coulter's book,
DPT: A Shot in the Dark. They represent parent's descriptions of
the effects of the DPT vaccine on their children. Since 1945 the
vaccine has been given to almost every American and it is likely that a high
number of people that have been adversely affected. The reader will notice
that DPT may prove to be a valuable addition to our Materia Medica for fevers,
febrile convulsions, seizures, SIDS, and
diarrheas; especially when these are found with the classic high pitched
inconsolable crying. Of course, this is one of the first remedies to consider
when the patient has had a severe reaction to the vaccination or their problems
began at 2, 4 or 6 months of age.
The symptoms are reminiscent of Chamomilla, Belladonna, Moschus, Natrum
Mur, Apis, Cicuta, Cuprum, Zinc and others. When possible the symptoms have
been presented in the person's own words.

Sleep - Waking at night with high pitched screaming. Excessive sleepiness.
Deep stuporous sleep. unable to be awakened. Brief periods of sleep interrupted
by long bouts of screaming.

COMMENTS - Harris Coulter records some reactions to the D.P.T. vaccines in his
book D.P.T. a shot in the dark: Child collapses with white or ashen skin, and
death-like unconsciousness. She'd turn blue and didn't appear to be breathing.
She'd start breathing on being shaken with white skin and blue or purple blue
around the mouth going to death. Nonresponsive, limp, flaccid, with screaming
eyes rolled back in his head.
Sitting, staring ahead with eyes dilated and mouth open, her lips were blue
and her body stiff. The right side of her body would tremble and she'd
occasionally make sucking sounds. Brief "generalized bending" or "jack knife"
spasms with sudden forward dropping of the head with adduction and flexion of
the arms.
"After a short period of staring, dropping head to chest and falling asleep
with eyes open, progressed to starring and sudden violent jerking of upper body
forward". "Her hands would go straight up in the air, her feet would go
straight out, she would clench her fists and hold her breath for 2 to 3
seconds, and then cry a high shrill cry." "Tremor of intensity" in the hands

In the days of Hahnemann and Kent most of the allopathic drugs were also
used as remedies. The idea was that anything that could affect health could be
used as a remedy. It may also be that treatments with allopathic drugs produce
a sort of miasm or tendency toward a certain set of symptoms. Now there are
many more drugs being used than there were in the nineteenth century. Many of
these have been used on several generations of patients. It is likely that
once drugs like cortisone, penicillin, valium, theodur, etc. have been more
fully proven we will find that they are among the polycrests of today.
Perhaps the most common type of treatment that the country's population
has been exposed to is vaccinations. This article, that I presented to the
Hahnemann College class, looks at some poisoning symptoms from one of these,
the Diphtheria s Pertussis s Tetanus vaccine.
How are vaccines different than naturally acquired ailments?
Vaccinations inject massive amounts of vaccine preparations directly into
the body, thus by-passing the outer defenses.
It has been proposed that vaccines use a much larger amount of the plasma
cells and lymphocytes than exposure to wild disease.
There is indisputable evidence that many instances of mental and nervous
disorders are caused by immuno-logical aberrations.
There is a substantial and growing body of evidence that modern vaccines
can result in chronic immune disfunction. These effects are often delayed,
indirect, and masked.
Well known that a state of anergy follows vaccinations (for example
suppressed TB sensitivity)
Numerous authors have described the occurrence of multiple sclerosis
following the administration of vaccines against small pox, typhoid fever,
paratyphoid fever, tetanus, poliomyelitis, tuberculosis, influenza, and
rabies. Systemic lupus erythematous has also been reported after
vaccinations.
In a follow up study of the swine flu immunization to elderly people who
had a history of chronic disorders, six out of seven people with allergies
reported that their allergies worsened; one of twenty with hypertension noted
increased blood pressure; one of nine diabetics developed a cold and increased
blood pressure; two of nine with gout developed a cold and a gout attack; and
one person with parkinson's noted increased clumsiness.
In a study of diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus vaccine only 7% of those
receiving the vaccine had no untoward reactions; 54% had fevers and 82%
exhibited behavior changes.
In addition to the vaccines DPT contains formaldehyde, a derivative of
mercury (thimerosal), and aluminum phosphate.
The following symptoms are excerpted from Harris Coulter's book,
DPT: A Shot in the Dark. They represent parent's descriptions of
the effects of the DPT vaccine on their children. Since 1945 the
vaccine has been given to almost every American and it is likely that a high
number of people that have been adversely affected. The reader will notice
that DPT may prove to be a valuable addition to our Materia Medica for fevers,
febrile convulsions, seizures, SIDS, and
diarrheas; especially when these are found with the classic high pitched
inconsolable crying. Of course, this is one of the first remedies to consider
when the patient has had a severe reaction to the vaccination or their problems
began at 2, 4 or 6 months of age.
The symptoms are reminiscent of Chamomilla, Belladonna, Moschus, Natrum
Mur, Apis, Cicuta, Cuprum, Zinc and others. When possible the symptoms have
been presented in the person's own words.

The answer could be in the first paragraph of your description of the case.
The eczema started after his triple antigen vaccinations. It started as a
fine rash, which gradually got worse over the years. Full scale allopathic
treatment started about 5 years ago.
NBWS vaccination: Thuja, because of the intensity of sx. I would go for a
200 or if you don't feel comfortable with that a 30
There as been a blockage due to vaccination and unless you clear that other
possible sx. appropriate rx. will not work.

I would want to know how this boy has changed over the years he has had the
eczema, how has it affected his personality, has he always had a bossy and
sometimes aggressive nature. It would also have been useful to have engaged
him in some enquiry as to his curiosity in certain items and his geometric
drawings, because on the face of it these seem like qualities and not sick
symptoms - although the geometric drawings remind me of a remedy - was it
gentle and methodical or obsessive and quick.
Why does he fear the dark - he sounds quite 'tough' when it comes to speed,
noise, music, climbing etc, so why fear the dark - is this a Phosphorus type
needing stimulation but also fearful?
What about other emotions - is he jealous, what makes him weep?
The aetiology has to be included but don't just use NBWS vaccination rubric
- the needle like pain, cold but
feels the cold in general and < cold wind is a bit of a mixture, eruptions
with clear and sticky discharge - these are all good symptoms to work with.
The remedies that came to my mind were quite diverse, but that is because of
some information lacking - but Vaccininum might be worth a look at, also
Hepar sulph, but I kept thinking about Agaricus and also Tarentula.

Eruptions coming on in different locations in groups
Pain like needles sticking in

Feels the cold in general
Itch < bedtime, < at night, < heat of bed
Eruptions weeping clear and sticky but get infected (yellowish pus)
The boy is affectionate, but can also get angry. When angry he screams and
throws things.
He has fear of the dark, loves climbing (no fear of heights) and fear of
Michael Jackson (finds him scary to look at (which I find understandable))
He does not like consolation, but likes cuddles with mum (although he hurts
too much most of the time)
He likes sweets, fireworks and other noisy things, like motorbikes and loud
music. He likes to go fast too, even if that means he'll have to put up with
the cold wind generated by that, which will affect his eruptions.
No strong likes or dislikes of food but likes seafood.
He has had his tonsils out when 2 ½ after chronic tonsillitis.
He is a loud snorer
He reacts to peanutbutter (but not peanuts), carrots and kiwifruit with a
rash in the face.
He sleeps from 8.30 onwards, and wakes up cranky and irritable

In the office he was very inquisitive, and touched a number of things and

At this point the symptoms had not changed, only in intensity (got worse:
more pain, more itch, more infection).
As he had had the Sulphur remedy already without success I decided to try
Lycopodium 30 c in water.
Third visit 10 December 2003:
The pain had got worse again, but symptoms had not really changed. I asked
the mother to find out what had been in the Sulphur combination. It turned
out that the Sulphur combo was a combination of Kali mur, Kali sulph, Calc
sulph and Sil, all in 6x, so he had not had Sulphur at all.
Prescription Sulphur 30 c in water
Fourth visit 12 December 2003:
The Sulphur works for a little while (reduces pain and itching) but then
stops. It only worked for an hour.
Prescription Sulphur 200c
Mother calls at night. The 200c does not do anything and she is getting
desperate. I ask her to wait.
Fifth visit 15 December 2003:
According to the mother the Sulphur has not relieved at all: A rash has come
up in his face, he is in more pain and there is more inflammation.
To me it looks now more like an eczema rash than before (the mother has
called it eczema all the time, but the distribution and appearance are not
conform classic eczema).
The patient does not look very well. He has not slept much, because of the
