If I've kept my terminology straight, this is the sort of "adhesion" that my
chiro handled on me several times by simple mechanical means. He used
muscle testing to find the area to treat -- tho I notice those areas could
also have been found just by feel, as the skin there did not move normally
-- and then just "kneaded" the skin, forcing it to separate from the
underlying tissue. It was somewhat uncomfortable, but not all that bad. In
the years after that I identified a couple of areas on my own (on myself)
and broke them up myself, over a period of days -- with definite benefit,
BTW. (I don't know the term "stenosis", so am simply speaking of adhesions
between the skin and the layer directly underneath.)

as i understand it, stenosis is like a hardening. so it is not exactly the same as an
adhesion which can result in a rigidity in the tissues. the condition i am talking about
is one that is chronic and not released by massage--including rolfing which is very deep.

adhesions

Hi Tanya
What part of the body are you referring to with your query? As far as i am aware, stenosis refers to the narrowing of a duct or canal eg, spine, arteries, esophagus, pylorus etc......
However, the stenosis can be caused by abnormal bundles of/hypertrophied muscles, either of the duct itself, or encroaching on a duct or canal. Is this what you were meaning?

i am not sure, to tell the truth. this was a suggested diagnosis. the body parts are lower extremities--thigh, knee, hip--mainly right sided. walking agg to the point of muscular immobility with extreme pain. sensation is of tightness and very deep aching. knee can have sharp pains under knee cap, or popliteal space is rigid and painful. often feeling is that of tearing,as is the hip joint or back is being torn apart. thigh will have similar tearing pains related to tightness on motion.

Tanya,

Stenosis is not hardening but narrowing of an orifice or vessel -- for example, stenosis of the carotid artery refers to narrowing of the artery by the deposition of atherosclerotic plaques. Do you mean sclerosis, which is a scarring that can cause hardening of tissues?

Cinnabar

Hi Tanya
I have missed the actual question as I joined in
just yesterday. By what little I understand, I feel it
is a circulatory disorder, probably stenosis of some
blood vessel as the pain looks like an ischaemic type
one. I was just wondering what the patients habits
are, does he or she smoke?. Does the patient have
intermittent claudication as well?. Was your question
related to the diagnosis of the disease or the drug?

Regards
Sravanthi.
