A question?

Post by Homoeopathic Help Line »

I have a question. Why most of the homoeopaths do not normally write the name(s) of medicines in the prescriptions?

Dear Syed Mohsen,

I think this is because of the fact that most of the patients are
curious about their 'constitutional' (!) remedy and
their 'personality'. Knowing about the source of the remedies and
their properties may lead to misunderstandings in the patient and
sometimes this knowledge of the remedies may induce a kind of proving
in the patient.

Kind regards,

The general reason is to keep the patient from going home and looking
up the remedy and deciding that it was a terrible prescription!
Also the keep the patient as an unprejudiced observer-- and let them
report openly at their follow-up.

Here in NZ it is LAW to write the name and potency on all prescriptions.

Dear Mrs Winston,
your question is good and of great practical importance. The answer is
ambivalent, unfortunately. The first answer you already received is the one side of
the coin - the patient can NOT appreciate the prescription being lay, however,
out of pure curiosity many do read in different books ( the wrong ones, of
course ) starting to appreciate the prescription on their own and change therapy
or interpret completely wrong symptoms.
On the other side, however, the patient has the right to know what he
actually swallows - as a matter of principle.
Other patients, being in therapy with other eventually less competent
homeopaths before unsuccesfully but in a way or another still related to those, may
take the fruit of YOUR hard work and tell it to these ones, which is a very
frustrating experience.
Sometimes placebo is needed, something the patient might by all means NOT be
allowed to know, otherwise ...
I for myself handle this problem in a different way and try - from to case to
case - to be very diplomatical. Kind regards, Dr Viorel V. Bucur (
