peculiar symptom
I'm sure we've all encountered symptoms that are inherently really "peculiar" that there is no hint of in the Repertory. A patient told me one last evening, and I wondered if anyone else on the list could construe it in such a way as to make it useful (miasm, type of remedy, metaphorically related rubric....). He's consistently had ingrowing hairs inside his ears and nostrils, resulting in ulcerating pimples in those areas. One of these, however, has resulted in a hair from inside his nostril growing throw the skin to the outside of his nose. The ingrowing seems sycotic, the ulceration syphilitic..... (????) Any other thoughts??
Thanks.

Re: peculiar symptom
Dear Rosemary, you could use an analogy - ingrowing nails - the remedies
here are of mixed miasmatic influence, and good old sulphur has ingrowing
hairs.
Is it the hair that is so sharp and spiky (as in Chocolate) that it can
penetrate the skin or is it that the skin is so soft and easily pierced by a
hair. What is the hair like on the rest of his body.
Sounds very interesting.

Re: peculiar symptom
Dear Rosemary
This is not a peculiar symptom. A symptom is a kind of a wave that has flow, dynamic, rise and fall and then is effected by external as well as internal interferences which makes it fluctuate or what you call modalities. This is mutated state of the skin. It is hyperapoptosis what Hahnemann called sycotic growth. I do not feel appropriate to suggest some remedy as this is my second day there are many stalwart around here but I beleive this condition can be cured.

Re: peculiar symptom
Hi Nanga Pir,
You're quite right that this isn't a "complete symptom", but how would one
get modalities for this sort of thing??? (Or was your point simply that
"symptom" wasn't the right word for it, and then what word would you use...)
Curious,

Hi Shanon:
This rather is a state that evolved over some time. Some people may call it objective symptom but not me. A state can also be called disease and of course we all know that in homeopathy diseases are described in more detailed than in allopathy. Some people do not want to listen the name of disease whereas Hahnemann himslef wrote "Chronic Diseases". Anyway this can be broken down further for analysis and it is a disease.
Thanks

Re: peculiar symptom
Hi,
In my opinion one of the best ways to evaluate a sign
or symptom is to see that if the patient dies at this
moment, whether the sign still remains or not. The
features that remain after death (at least for hours)
are not 'ALIVE SYMPTOMS' and are not directly showing
the activity of vital force and are merely the end
products resulting from the pressure of the dynamic
derangement on physical body.
It is interesting to note that if a symptom is taken
when it has modality, sensation,... this symptom is a
'Alive' and does not need the technic I introduced
above!
Our repertories are full of 'Dead' symptoms. These may
help as indirectly but better not considered as high
value symptoms. In older repertories built on a deep
thought, such as Boenninghausen's, you rarely find
such 'dead' signs.

Ardavan Shahrdar

So, you are saying that this single expression would have to be "diagnosed"
treated in its whole context, along with e.g. history, mentals and etc.?
Now *that* I could not argue with!
