Case- guess

Since cases are being presented I thought I will present you with a few
cases. From what I have seen of the members of our list most are familiar
with one kind of prescribing that is constitutional prescribing. This is
the best kind of prescribing and that should be our main aim at finding a
remedy that covers the whole case. But sometimes we need to look at cases
from other angles. Therefore the cases I will present you will be those
that needed a different approach. My purpose is that once in a while if one
approach fails our minds should be open to other approaches. So here is the
first case. You may read the case and discuss it and come up with your own
suggestions. I am sorry I will not be able to take part in your discussions
(though I wish I could) but I will give you the remedy's name and why I
chose it in two days time.
The case was that of atrophy of the brain of a lady aged 72 years. I did
not see the patient but her son gave me these symptoms.
The presenting symptoms were Involuntary stools, involuntary urination; loss
of appetite; loss of memory does not recognize anyone. Does not utter a
word has forgotten how to speak. Extremely restless walks continously till
she is exhausted lies down for some time then again gets up and walks around
the house again. No appetite at all except for sweets. She will eat
something if it is sweet otherwise does not eat at all. Hands and feet are
hot and she feels hot most of the time. Thirst is increased. She becomes
more restless and looks upset if people visit their home and becomes less
restless if there are no visitors. The CT scan showed brain atrophy.
Is this a good case - of couse not. Nevertheless try and see if if you can
fit a remedy

Interesting case! You're right -- nothing comes up with repertorizing in a usual way. Thinking about it, it seems we would be looking for a syphilitic animal -- the restlessness and the appearance of fear of strangers, along with the apparent pathology noted on the CT scan (Assuming that brain atrophy generally indicates destruction as well as shrinkage)--- something about the energy of the situation makes one think of a stunned, threatened animal. Actually Bufo, strangely, works for all the symptoms given -- including two very small rubrics -- "desire for sugared water" (admittedly an allegorical leap here, but it's in desires sweets, thirsty, appetite wanting...), and also "stupor with inability to speak." It has loss of memory, restlessness, hot hands and hot feet, aversion to presence of strangers,involuntary urination, and involuntary stool... Based on the information available, I would consider using this remedy, based especially on the feeling of the situaton and the correspondance of symptoms. Mental dullness with excessive physical energy and premature senility are important features of Bufo as a remedy.

I just attended a seminar with Rajan Sankaran, and used what I learned about kingdoms and miasms in that seminar to approach this case (spurred by your indication that a different approach was needed -- don't know if it led to the solution that worked for you). In common with others who were there, I've been finding that Sankaran's approach has been very helpful in beginning to solve previously "unsolvable" cases. Mind: restlessness, walking amel- cench,
culx,dios,natm, nicc, zinc p
weakness, of memory-
involuntary urination
hot palms and feet all agree for zinc p
sweets liking is contra indicated. Yet zinc p seems
the closest.
Thirst goes with sweets. All sweet eaters are thirsty
There is another rubric - mind: restlessness:strangers
presence of agg: sep
Sepia has weakened memory, and a liking of sweets, hot
hands and foot but
sep is a chilly patient seeking heat.

Zinc-p is the probable remedy.

Going by the disease ' brain affection'is never safe
and advisable. AS you said sometimes an unconventional
means is needed. Even then, we had a rare sx in
restlessness which lie outside the disease.
