Hi everyone,
I'm fairly new to group and haven't had
much of a chance to introduce myself.
My name is Kim and I'm currently studying
Homoeopathy in Sydney, Australia.
I was wondering if anyone knew anything
about the remedy Cinnamon.
Regards
Kim

There is a good entry on Cinnamomum in Vermeulen's Synoptic Materia Medica
II. Haven't had any experience of it myself.

Re: Cinnamon
Hi Kim: I'm new to the group also and I'm studying in Toronto, Canada but my family have a restaurant in Byron Bay called Boomerang. Where are you studying in Sydney? Any info you can give me regarding your course would be appreciated.
I'll tell you what I know of Cinnamon - it's a remedy for the feeble, women with lymphatic problems, women with languid circulation. Rather peculiar is tax issues. It has been used in the treatment of cancer, for bowel haemorrages, blood is thin and pale, flatulence & diarrahea. Sleepy - no desire for food. Delusion left side of body is diminished.
Tell me more specifically what you want to know and I will check for you.

Re: Cinnamon
Hi Carol,
I'm studying at the Australiasian College of Natural
Therapies, currently doing a Diploma of Homoeopathy
but with a view to doing a Bachelor of Health Science
at the University of New England and after typing
that mouthful it all sounds very pretentious.
Basically I'm really interested in natural therapies
and would one day like to give allopathy a run for its
money. The college is in Surry Hills, they have a
website http://www.acnt.com.au which is reasonably
informative. Let me know what else you'd like to know.
Regarding Cinnamon, I'm doing a homoeopathy pharmacy
assignment on it. We make the remedy and do a report
on it. Although I can find heaps of general information
on Cinnamon, especially as a herbal remedy but finding
provings and the like has been difficult. I was hoping
to find references to it in Hahnemann's writing but so
far I've only found a couple of lines in his Chronic
Diseases.
Anything I can get my hands on from a homoeopathic angle
would be great.
Regards
Kim

Re: Cinnamon
Dear Kim,
Cinnamon is a haemorrhagic remedy with a strong affinity to the female
reproductive organs and quite an important remedy to consider for uterine
cancer but the haemorrhages can be from anywhere - nose, bowels, anus
(haemorrhoids), uterus, skin eruptions bleed easily and all haemorrhages are
usually <<< any exertion.
If the woman is pregnant and is having haemorrhages that threaten
miscarriage - post partum haemorrhage - very heavy menses.
Also an affinity with the digestion (used as a stomach tonic), creating lots
of flatulence, vomiting and nausea connected to constipation and/or
diarrhoea.
The mentals and emotions are interesting - as well as being an anxious
remedy, there is the delusion that they are diminished and even more
curious, that the left side of the body is diminished (connection to the
heart?).
The memory is bad, there are states of confusion and withdrawal which
connects with the feeling of being diminished. They retreat to live in their
own world and find it hard coping with anything new or unfamiliar. There is
also a lot of anxiety with this remedy (perhaps the spice agitates the
circulation and creates an anxiety centred around the heart). The anxiety
can lead to convulsions, fevers.
Hope this helps, best wishes, Joy

Re: Cinnamon
Hi Kim,
Here's from Vermeullen II:
SIGNS
Cinnamomum zeylanicum. Laurus cinnamomum. N.O. Lauraceae.
This from 20 to 30 feet high tree grows best in almost pure sand,
requiring only 1% of vegetable substance. It prefers a sheltered place,
constant rain, heat and equal temperature. The root-bark smells like
cinnamon and tastes like camphor, which it yields on distillation. The
commercial Cinnamon bark is the dried inner bark of the shoots.
Cinnamon and cassia [Cinnamomum cassia] are two of the oldest spices
known to man. They are mentioned several times the Bible, e.g. in Exodus
30:23-25.
Curved knifes are used to cut the bark in strips from the trimmed
shoots; these strips are then left in bundles to ferment for 24 hours. The
cork-like outer layer is then peeled off carefully, so that the clean
light-coloured inner layer remains. This then curls up when being dried and
takes on the shape of a pipe. With cassia, the pipes are quite thick because
the cork-like resin is still attached. The cork is removed from real Ceylon
cinnamon and the pipes are slid into each other. The best quality is light
brown and looks like a roll of dried-out paper.
Cinnamon bark preparations have an effect on the vasomotor centre,
which leads to vasoconstriction. Moderate doses increase the frequency of
the heart, breath, peristalsis as well as sweat, tear and nasal secretions.
High doses causes depression, sleepiness and cramps. In allopathy, cinnamon
preparations are used in digestive disorders, particularly as digestivum,
tonicum and carminativum.
-
COMPARE
Phosphorus. Ipecacuanha. Belladonna. Nitricum acidum. Sabina. China.
Millefolium. Erigeron. Trillium.
REGION
Female organs. Circulation; blood.
-
PECULIARS
G Lymphatic, feeble, cachectic women, with lax tissues and languid
circulation. [Hering]
G Each attack of hysteria subsides with a dozen eructations, soon,
however, returning.
Paroxysms of hysteria subside as soon as vomiting sets in.
G Miscarriage.
"Probably the next commonly mechanical cause for a miscarriage is
overlifting. Strangely enough, cases of abortion coming for that reason do
not respond nearly so well to Arnica as might be expected.
The patients usually complain of a good deal of dragging pain a
feeling as if everything had settled down into the pelvis, and a good deal
of tenderness in the region of the round ligaments, and possibly some blood
loss. That kind of case responds very well to Cinnamon. One distinguishing
point is that the Cinnamon type of patient is usually restless. She is
extremely uncomfortable; she finds it difficult to get a comfortable
position and tosses about. Arnica patients are made very much worse by any
movement." [Borland]
G Menses too early and too profuse,
particularly in females troubled with itching of nose and nightly
restlessness, profuse flow of red blood.
