Plumbago Litteralis
From Robin Murphy's Lotus Materia Medica
PHARMACY Plumbg. Plumbago litteralis. N. O. Plumbaginaceae.
Tincture of leaves. Historical dose: Tincture and all potencies.
Planets: Mercury.
HISTORY - Allen says Plumbago scandens corresponds to Mure's figure
and grows in Brazil. Mure says P. lit. is a creeper inhabiting the
shores in the bay of Rio Janeiro. Many of the plants of this genus
are acrid and caustic in the highest degree. The root of P.
scandens, the Herbe du Diable of San Domingo is a very blistering
agent when fresh, so also is that of Plumbago rosea. The beggars
employ Plumbago europea to raise ulcers on their body to excite pity
and used internally it is said to be as good an emetic as Ipec.,
(Treas. of Botany).
HOMEOPATHIC - Mure proved Plumbg. The most peculiar symptoms were:
Saliva profuse, milky. Costiveness with red urine. Vertigo after
eating. Aversion to everything is noted. Also ulceration of
commissures of lips, which is an evidence of its acridity. Pain in
humerus on lifting anything. Hot arms with cold hands.
CLINICAL - Eyes inflammation. Fever. Kidneys, pain. Saliva, milky.
COMPARE - (1)Costiveness with red urine, Lyc. (2) The Plumbaginaceae
are allied to the Primulaceae. (3) Plantaginaceae - the root of Plb.
europ. is used dried as a remedy for toothache.
SOURCES - Clarke.
