They can get a good deal of these nutrients from food such as a wide variety
of veggies--but in the more extreme versions of the diet (like Atkins', or
some forms of the diet used medically) they will only get a small portion of
these nutrients from veggies; so supplementation is necessary.

Not everyone who undertakes this type of diet eats meat! It's possible to
round out protein sources with fish, milk products, nuts, eggs, and soy;
even the meat eaters, I've found, seem to explore these options more
frequently on these diets. At least my patients do!

Well, the Atkins diet is the extreme of the protein focused diets...and some
people do very very well concentrating on just proteins...but most get very
bored, quickly. These green vegetables you list are definitely not the
equivalent of grains; nor are they the limit from which people can choose
their veggies! I couldn't survive on just those...and I'm not even on the
diet.

It is possible to create a vegetarian version--but I would think it would be
very difficult to create a vegan version. Personally, I think an ovo-lacto
vegetarian would be able to do a version such as the Zone or even the
Protein Power diet with little difficulty.

It really is much more about good quality protein, very good quality fats,
and minimizing grains and sugars in order to stabilize blood sugar levels,
kidney function, circulation, and heart function. "Meat" isn't the big
issue.

Joan, that's wonderful about your blood sugar. Just goes to show you that nutrition plays a big part in our health. My Husband and I are great Atkins advocates as well. We feel so much better eating his way. Just wondering if you've been on a remedy for your health in general, your diabetes?
Juvenile Diabetes is type 1 and serious.
Diabetes is caused from severe grief - on that note - Has there been any constitutional remedy that can cure that for you? Sorry to be so personal.

I have had type 1 diabetes for over 26 years ....numerous problems, most

As far as being bored - I get that way. Been on Atkins for 2 months now and I know its wrong to cheat but I have to. My husband and I get pizza on the weekends. Have to or else I'd go mad :-)
And while cheating, I've lost 20 pounds plus and so has my husband. I do know if you cheat and eat starchy carbs, your body goes from fat burning to carb burning but I'm still loosing weight so I feel good about the weekend pizza.

Re cheating - I became intrigued with the "Warrior Diet" where one eats fruit and vegetables all day long, with nuts and/or meat (up to 6 oz) during the day if needed to help stave off hunger, and then anything they want at the evening meal. The evening meal should progress from salad - to meat - to carbs - to desert. In that order. So far I've lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks. And it's something I can live with indefinitely.

Hmmm.

can you speak a bit more about the relationship of diabetes to grief?
are you saying that juvenile diabetes is more grief related than adult
onset diabetes?

Hi

I have a friend - not being treated by homeopathy, who has been on the
Atkins Diet since April. He has lost several kilos, and inches, but has
been told by his Doctor that his cholesterol has actually gone up.

Regards

Karen

Other than that, this type of diet really helps to get patients off
their
cholesterol, blood pressure, and heart medicines quickly. Of course,
some
of them begin to miss the grains and sugary foods after a while...but
its
all manageable.

I don't believe that his high cholesterol is due to the diet unless he's eating bacon grease all day long.
High Cholesterol is caused by the emotion "Fear of accepting Joy, Clogging the channels of Joy" so--- a remedy to suit his person would take care of that.
Our emotions and what happens to us during our lifetime has everything to do with disease. Classical Homeopathy and a good Constitutional remedy will take care of him.

Bacon grease does not cause high cholesterol - hydrogenated oils
(transfats) do, though. And cholesterol has no real co-relation to heart
disease, anyway. It is easy to become distracted by allopathic ideas about
diet (heavily influenced by the processed food industry, BTW) and forget to
take the case...
