Dear Liz
Triglycerides (tri-GLIS'er-ídz) are the chemical form in which most fat
exists in food as well as in the body. They're also present in blood plasma
and, in association with cholesterol, form the plasma lipids.
Triglycerides in plasma are derived from fats eaten in foods or made in the
body from other energy sources like carbohydrates. Calories ingested in a
meal and not used immediately by tissues are converted to triglycerides and
transported to fat cells to be stored. Hormones regulate the release of
triglycerides from fat tissue so they meet the body's needs for energy
between meals.
How is an excess of triglycerides harmful?
Excess triglycerides in plasma is called hypertriglyceridemia. It's linked
to the occurrence of coronary artery disease in some people. Elevated
triglycerides may be a consequence of other disease, such as untreated
diabetes mellitus. Like cholesterol, increases in triglyceride levels can be
detected by plasma measurements. These measurements should be made after an
overnight food and alcohol fast.
Please see

So you would need to know if this is because the patient is taking in to
much fat, or his liver is producing this to excess.
If the former, then life style changes are advisable.
If the latter, then he needs support and should check/increase his
consumption of green leafy vegetables.
On Bezafibrate please see
Please see http://bnf.vhn.net/bnf/documents/bnf.564.html
Not recommended with renal problems!!

Re: High Triglycerides
I seem to recall that high triglycerides can also be normalized by other
dietary measures, I *think* omega 3s and B vitamins? But a remedy that
helps him well in other ways should also help this; I doubt you need to
address it separately unless it's an immediate threat and the needed remedy
is being elusive.

Re: High Triglycerides
I used to buy into the "avoid saturated fats, eat whole grains, avoid
cholesterol" party line promoted by the food pyramid people. However, I
found that my health was declining rather than improving on a low fat diet.
I instead eliminated all grains, and added back real foods like butter,
whole milk dairy products (raw when possible) and eggs from free roaming,
pastured chickens. Within a week, my morning stiffness was gone, and I
could feel my clothes getting looser. After a year, I was back to my
pre-pregnancy weight, and my then 15 year old daughter had lost more than
70 pounds! My blood pressure had always been in the normal range, but now
it was even lower.
Check out some of these web sites for a different look at nutrition. And
while you are at it, be sure to take a look at what Hahnemann had to say
about diet in the Organon - he would have been no advocate of the food pyramid!

Re: High Triglycerides
Thanks to all those of you who sent information about
this subject. There was some great information, I
feel I now have a basic understanding of what I am
dealing with!
The client was told not to eat egg yolks and to buy
low fat cheese!! Now he is much more interested in the
dietary advice I have forwarded, and is eating a lot
of greens!
Presently he is sticking to the medication.
I have treated him consitutionally with Sepia 30c,
succussed daily for a month, with great success.
There is no obvious reason to start again with this,
do you think the Sepia will still be working? As
suggested I'm sure it would help with his Tri Glyc
levels, but am reluctant to start him on it again as
his health is so much improved.
Any thoughts??
Thanks
Liz
Ps Welcome Fran!
