I use Clark and Kents Materia Medica allot. I recently noticed that Clark has a sign in and password for members only and it costs $.
Any comments on that? Also does anyone know of another website that has just as extensive Material as Clarks? thanks, Colleen

Materia Medica, and related information that I have found to date, well
worth the $23-24 dollars per year membership.

As many as you can afford! ) Really!
Kent is a good one to start with, and also Boericke (which has the
broadest selection of remedies; and is especially useful in acute
prescribing).

Are you looking re home prescribing, or just learning the theory, or ?

I started off with Kent but now I find you need to get as many as you can lay your hands on because there is always something different to read in everyone of them.

If you can afford it, look at Frans Vermeulen's Concordant Materia Medica. All of his books are of a superb quality. For the right brained (or is it left) Prisma is decadent, lots of history, mythology etc as well, very interesting. The student version (less than half the thickness, easier to carry around but still gorgeous) is the new Synoptic One. Then there is volume 2 to Prisma which is called Synoptic 2, also weighs 1500g (app 3 pounds) and contains a lot of the smaller remedies. All highly recommended. Prisma and Synoptic 2 you really can take to bed to read because of all the interesting stuff in there, just don't drop one on your face.

Hi Colleen,

The first thing to do in studying MAteria MEdica is to understand the
essentials of remedies. that will give you a good grounding for any
Prescription - acute or chronic.
Three of the reccomended books, if you are just starting of are:
1. Lippe's Red Line Symptoms
2. Allens Keynotes.
3. BOger's Synoptic key.
All are small books with the essentials of remedies with empahsis on
characteristics that you should memorize by reading over and over.

once you've got the basics memorized, then read other books.
the most comprehensive are Clarke, Phatak, MAteria MEdica Pura and
Beoricke. Each has a different thrust to the MAteria MEdica.
Vermeullen and Roger Morrison are modern books with all the detials as
well, if you can afford them.
Others that give descriptions of remedies that are interesting to read
(but not for learning) are Nash, Kent, MArgaret Tyler.
Of the Modern thinkers: Rajan Sankaran's books (Especially "Soul"), Ian
Scholton, O A Julian.

Reference books which have the Proving Symptoms: HErings and Allens
volumes of MAteria MEdica.
