The remedy was introduced and proved by Dr. Stapf. It is a remarkable
medicine for helminthiasis and for mucous and fibroid growths. It is viewed
with Cina and Santonine in the treatment of ascarides. We have many of the
symptoms of Cina present in this remedy, as for example the sensation of
crawling in the rectum after stool, itching and creeping in the anus as from
ascarides, restlessness at night, excitement of mind, vivid and anxious
dreams causing the patient to start, and sleeplessness on account of intense
itching in the anus. We also have great emaciation in spite of voracious
appetite.
This remedy has always enjoyed a great reputation, amongst homeopaths,
for being a first-rate remedy in the treatment of polypus-nasal vaginal and
rectal. We have a case on record, of a man suffering from nasal polypus, who
had it removed yearly for thirty successive years. The roots had extended up
to the ethmoid bone and into the tantrum of Highmore. After a short course
of treatment with the remedy, his breathing, which was usually obstructed,
became quite free and the sense of smell which had been impaired for 20
years was restored, and for all practical purposes he was cured. Mucous
polypus of the nose, as well as, fleshy polypus springing from nostrils or
elsewhere when accompanied by a crawling sensation in the nose, stoppage of
the nose and a sensation of formication and shooting at the root of the nose
finds a ready help. The other symptoms are discharge of green scales and
clinkers from nose and offensive smell from it. Smooth pedunculated
pear-shaped popylus of the vagina, protruding outside, disappears under its
influence.
The remedy has a peculiar cough. It is associated with a moldy taste in
the mouth white hawking up the mucus. this may be considered a key-note
symptom of the remedy.
It is also reported to have cured hard fibrous growths on the inner
side of the eyelids which prevented them from properly closing.
