Haematoma

Post by Laura Peterson »

have a potency question. Perhaps a remedy question also. I am giving a
man Arnica 30C for a haematoma (sp?) which happened about three days ago.
He declined Arnica then. Just put ice on it. First he hit and scraped
the leg with a ladder and it bled into his shoe but he did not stop to
attend to it (Arnica mental state?). That night, he banged it severely
in the same spot (shin) and a blood vessel bled into the underlying
tissue, forming the haematoma. He has high blood pressure and he thinks
that because he forgot to take his medicine that day he bled more easily.
Anyway, he did not rest it for long and now it appears to be walled off
and he is loosing feeling in the skin below the clot. If the skin dies,
he will need a skin graft. He is scared enough to try homeopathics! I
gave one dose of Arnica 30C at midnight, he took one this morning at 6am
and another at 4pm this afternoon. He worked all day with it wrapped in
a tight bandage. No visible results yet.
I have Arnica 200C and Arnica 6C. I also just gave him Hypericum 30C to
see if it would help the nerve damage and relieve the pain. Higher,
lower, more often? Any suggestions welcome. He needs to see results
soon before the skin dies.
Thanks,
Laura Peterson

Hi Laura,

Do you have anything more about it? What exactly is the pain like, what
makes it better or worse (hot/cold, hanging down/putting up, or anything?),
what changes to his mental state or appetite, thirst, if any?

Hi Shannon,
It is better from elevation. He has a medical reason for wrapping it
which I forget. He is a nurse. He is not applying ice anymore, and
thinks that he should be applying heat to get the circulation going, but
has not. I found out that it has been a week, not three days like I
originally posted. He expected it to get better faster than this. He is
scared enough to ask for help and take Vitamin C. That's all I know and
will try to ask discreetly about other changes. He also started taking a
baby aspirin a day to help prevent blood clots. Shortly after it
happened - about a day or so - he felt nauseous. He said it was from his
body absorbing the blood. ?!
Thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura,

I wouldn't bother being discreet! If he wants help from remedies, he needs
to give you a case to prescribe on. Arnica seems to me like a reasonable
first stop, but if it's not work, you need to get the details to see where
to go next.

If see this rubric:
GENERALITIES; HEMATOMA: ange-s., bell-p., buth-aust., calc-f., merc., sil.,
x-ray

sub-rubric: and Injuries, after (see Injuries...general, with
extravasation)
GENERALITIES; INJURIES, blows, falls and bruises; general; extravasations,
with (K1369, SRII-326, G1129): (3) Arn., Sul-ac., (2) acet-ac., bad., con.,
ham., hep., lach., led., puls., ruta, sulph., (1) agar., bell-p., both-l.,
bry., calen., cham., chin., cic., crot-h., dulc., euphr., ferr., hyper.,
iod., laur., mill., nux-v., par., plb., rhus-t., sec., staph., sul-i.,
symph.

You don't need to know what he thinks he *should* be doing to it; you need
to know what the leg seems to want -- what (if anything) seems to make it
feel better.

I don't know much about hematomas, so these might be dumb questions, but: I
assume the numbness below the injury is because the pressure of the hematoma
cuts of circulation? Can it be lanced? (Sorry if this is a dumb
question...)

Can you explain to him that, to increase chances of finding a more useful
remedy, you need to know "everything" about how it feels, how it has
affected him, *anything* that has changed in his experience since the injury
happened? And it could also be important to know what was going on *before*
the injury -- was he in an emotional state or other circumstance that was
out of his ordinary?

Thanks Shannon!!
Neither of my reps have this rubric! Bellis-p is a good bet I think.
Same family as Arnica and good for hematoma according to the MM. And I
have it!
Sul-ac seems a more chronic remedy and this is definitely an acute. The
high blood pressure however needs another remedy...
He thinks mechanically about the body. It's his training. This is my
soon to be ex so comminication is a minimum. He does not get the mental
emotional connection and it would not be well received coming from me.
Yes, I think that once the swelling is gone, the numbness will also go.
Hopefully. The docs are ready to cut it - debridment is the medical term
I think. That would open it to infection and a scar.

Arnica has a keynote of "thinks he is well" which translated means "won't accept help". I would go to 200 considering it has been a week, but do make sure that you advise him to seek conventional help to cover yourself!!

sounds like he has great anxiety about health (as many medical people do). are you factoring
this into the picture.

I had a similar condition a few years ago from a fall except that i never broke the skin. I had
developed a swelling and hardness of the injury. it was very painful and walking was difficult.
the skin developed a dark brown color (from the trapped blood no doubt). it took a very long time
for the wounds to resolve but i never worried about major blood clots or losing my leg or skin.
i share this just to help you develop perspective.

Arnica 30c did not help me. i probably needed 200c at the time--daily. i would also look at
bellis and see if it fits. and i agree with shannon and others who suggest not tip-toeing around
your questions. there is nothing terribly private about asking about the quality of pain or his
history of other injuries and what his normal response to them is.

good luck

tanya

Oh yeah, treating the uncommunicative spouse... even without the
"soon-to-be-ex" or the skepticism. May for Force be with you!!!
(Seriousy, good luck and hope it works out!)
