Dear All,
I wondered whether any of my learned colleagues on this discussion group
know of a Canadian system of Homeopathy named Heil-kunst? My niece has been
looking for a distance learning program and browsing the internet. She has
mentioned this system to me, and the school that teaches it (I think in
Ottawa?), but I know very little about these schools of distance learning.
All I know about this system is what she has told me, that it apparently
purports to teach a unique concept of Hahnemann's "complete medical system".
I had always thought we already had Hahnemann's complete medical system,
personally! I would be most grateful for any advice, as I would like my
niece to undergo a good training.

Distance learning can be a fabulous way to study for people who are
independent and well-motivated. Heilkunst is quite controversial -- I would
not recommend it for someone who wanted a good basic foundating in classical
homeopathy. I personally studied with a distance learning program that I
found excellent: Caduceus Institute of Classical Homeopathy. It's located
in Santa Cruz CA, but it's totally set up for distance learning. Willa
Keizer, the founder, is an outstandingly good practitioner and also a really
fine teacher who knows how to organize and present materials so they flow
smoothly, make sense, and build into an integrated whole. Why not have your
niece, as she looks at different programs, check out the Caduceus website at
www.homeopathyhome.com/caduceus and also get in touch with Willa:
willa@homeopathyhome.net She'll find Willa very helpful and easy to
communicate with. I highly recommend her program.

Hi George,
Seconding Rosemary's observation that the Heilkunst method (which I think is
either closely related to or the same as Sequential Therapy?) is very
controversial. Personally i don't know enough about it to say much more --
there are some good people who like it, and some good people who don't...
You could learn more about it from Rudy Verspoor's book, Homeopathy
Revisited (I think I got that right?).

was struck by the polarities - great fervour and enthusiasm from students of
the school in question, contrasted with expressions of great dissatisfaction
and even alarm from others who have had experience of this system. The
impression comes across that this is a very experimental system of therapy,
and perhaps not terribly well tested or proven as yet.
On reflection, I think I will point my niece in some other direction,
perhaps the British Institute of Homeopathy or one of the other schools
mentioned. The last thing I want is that my niece is taught a way of
homeopathy that is less than effective, or possibly even harmful.

British Institute of Homeopathy. I have since discovered that they have
offices all over the world. Since they have a school in Canada, I visited
their website and liked the look of the program.
We can only point our nieces in the best direction we can, and let them make

She should also look at Misha Norland's school, www.homeopathyschool.com.
BIH and Misha's Devon School are the two best-known and best-regarded, and
do have some differences in emphasis and approach. I think one would do
well to consider both before making a final decision.
