Scientific Study finds scientific studies flawed

Post by Dave Hartley »

Intellectual dishonesty where "science" meets Mr. Global$ .. common
sense?
Sure, but now there's a "study" ;)

----------
Industry-Funded Medical Research Skewed Toward Industry

Conflicts of interest that arise from industry-funded medical research
are widespread and can affect the outcomes of the research, according to
a new study.

The study found that scientific studies funded by an industry-related
source are close to four times more likely to yield results that favor
the industry than those sponsored by independent sources.

Problems with "studies" which are actually designed more like
advertising campaigns, and a Federal "regulatory" agency which is well
known as "an industry lap-dog" & "revolving door" (where corporate
personnel are cycled thru as agency personnel) have helped create..
THE MOST PROFITABLE industry in the U.S.

Pharmaceutical Industry Ranks As Most Profitable Industry -- Again

Profits, Marketing Bigger Priorities than R&D
Pfizer led U.S. pharmaceutical companies with $7.8 billion in profits in
2001, which is more than the profits of all the Fortune 500 companies in
the homebuilding, apparel, railroad and publishing industries combined.
(is that sick, or what?!)

La plus ca change! Many years ago, my ex- was involved in defending a group
of drug companies in the Tetracycline price-fixing conspiracy. Were they
guilty? Well, we used to joke that they ought to make the legal argument
that they couldn't get unbiased counsel -- meaning that anyone who worked on
the case was so sickened by what he saw of the pharmaceutical industry's
behavior that he swore of drugs and the law forever.

Was it on this list that I saw that medical journals were having to relax
their rules for submissions because industry funding so dominates medical
research now?

Peace,
Cinnabar
