Focusing on the presenting symptoms

Dear Joy

Although up to now I have been asking about the patients presenting
symptoms, I have not spent too much time on it. I have done my best to get
the modalities and then on to pastures new. With this idea, one hangs in
there and as you may see if you try it soon the mental and emotional
symptoms start to come out even when the pt is talking about their eczema or
whatever.

Perhaps you need to see a demonstration of this for you to understand what I
am on about. I have seen senior homoeopaths take cases at two colleges, in
different countries and by people trained in different cultures and
backgrounds. None has conducted the interview in the way I was trying to
describe (I may have done a lousy job of that - if so sorry folks).

If you think I am talking 'nonsense' when I say that none of the cases on
this site have shown this mode of questioning, then kindly re-post one (I
may have missed it) and then I will say no more.

The aim is to get to the Similimum for the patient by the easiest and
fastest route and also to make sure that as well as a good case taken, the
correct impression has been given to the pt.

post. May I ask what you concentrate on when taking the case other than the
presenting complaint? And as for "none of the cases presented on this site
have shown this mode of questioning" is a nonsense. You go where you have to

to find the simillimum but you can never ignore the presenting complaint

I have seen it Soroush, this is not new at all and I try to practise it as
much as possible myself. It is vital that you get to stand in as many
clinics as possible and develop your own methods of casetaking that work -
both for you and your clients. As I said before we approach the simillimum
by many routes but we cannot ignore the presenting symptoms and "not
spending too much time on them" still amazes me. This is not a pot shot at
you but I just cannot understand what all the fuss is about.

Maybe one thing that this very interesting thread illustrates is how many
distinct sub-groups there are within "classical homeopathy". You and Wendy
are surprised by his surprise, but I and some others found it quite as
fascinating as he did. Interesting...

I think it's a kind of a gimmick, a GOOD gimmick, something that
students should role-play in school. Part of what was expressed about
Sankaran's approach is basic Psych 101, and in fact is *so* basic that a
certain percentage of people I've seen would immediately perceive it,
feel manipulated, and react poorly. Part of it is straight from
Organon; reminiscent of Boenninghausen; Kent, even.

It's a good idea to see a bunch of different approaches, and to be able
to integrate them so that we're not practicing "a technique" .. we are
just being a good homeopath, who has had exposure to a bunch of
so-called techniques.
