Root canal

Post by Laura Peterson »

I do not know if any dentists are on this list still. Anyone else with
experience would be welcome to reply. Is it always necessary to have a
root canal done once a tooth has abscessed? I gave up on homeopathics,
after trying a variety, and am now on antibiotics. I really, really
hate having my teeth worked on but feel that this is probably something I
have to do. Any comments?
Thanks,
Laura Peterson

Thanks to all that replied to my query.
I tried many remedies, Donna, some of which helped the pain but none that
stopped the abcess. I started with Cham because it felt better with cold
water and that worked. Eventually though, the cold water no longer
helped. I also tried Silica, Hepar sulph, Phos, Pyrog and Calcarea
(although the highest potency I had was a 6C in this. I even tried Sepia
since it is a fairly regular remedy for me. I also tried Mercury 30C once
but it seemed to make it worse. I repped on the pain, the fact that it
was probably an abcess (deep filings) and first the gum swelled, then the
cheek. I look like a lop-sided chipmunk. I made it until Monday morning
to get antibiotics from the dentist and I was feeling bad all over
-feverish and weak. I would love to find a good remedy for me, Allen,
like you did. Just haven't had much luck yet, either with a professional
or with self-prescribing.

Perhaps I need to rephrase my question. Do abscesses kill the roots? If
the roots are dead, will the body take care of the debris? Will the
tooth fall out without roots? How to tell if the roots are dead?

Thanks for all your replies.

my understanding is that once the abscess forms, dentists say the roots are compromised and
they feel root canal is the only option. they also say there is no way out for the infected tissue.
however, homeopathy has been able to help the body reabsorb, and presumably, discharge
the debris.

i have had minimal success with rx in allaying the pain and swelling of abscesses. merc has helped
in the past. cant recall if it was merc c or merc s that i used, but often they are interchangeable. i
probably used 30c which is what is easily available over the counter locally. there was a dentist
on this list for a time who mentioned several other rx that he has used. i recal hecla lava being one
of them. and there are a couple of homeopathic dental books on the market. check out minimum
price books online--look up the subject and their should be a few titles.

Hi Laura

I had a similar problem when treating an abscess for my husband, the remedy
which did it in the end was Myristica - I believe known as the homeopathic
scalpel, it worked magically after a day or two.

Good luck

Karen

Hi Karen,

Was the tooth saved by the Myristica, and how long ago has it been?

Great story! I will have to look more closely at my chronic problems and
perhaps find the answer there.
Thanks,
Laura

My wife had an infected tooth in her left side of mouth. She was sensitive
with water and weets. Some months back, she was having a recurrence of
stye. I prescribed Borax 30, three doses every fifteen minutes. Good enough
that her old problem of tooth returned. Whole left cheek was swollen and
she could not open her mouth or chew without pain, but stye improved. With
every passing day, the suffering aggravated, till one dose of Borax 1M.
Almost four or five months have passed, her tooth is okay and also the
sensitivity. Maybe it is of any assistance. Take care.

Sincerely,
Zaidee

Hi Jean (how are you?) the problem is that the nerve is actually damaged.
The problem is that the root once damaged VERY quickly becomes an absess. I
hate to be defeatist and negative but sometimes it is as Hahnemann said
homoeopathy can't treat a broken bone. It needs to be set and we can help by
giving something to help the healing. I have had root canal done a few
times it is very difficult I never found any PERMANENT solution BUT Arnica
is good for recovery. Liz

the issue in the root canal is the abcessed tooth. the bactreial cause if this abcess is usually stahylococcus aureus. the staph nosode taken every two hours in the acute stage can help reduce the pain. i still think that the root canal is a necessity. however, taking staph 30x is important for 4-5 days afterwards as it will help heal. mc
