Digest Number 886

Post by Dr Muktinder Singh »

Hi
I would like to join discussion on constitutional remedy with ref to aph no
5 of organon

In these investigations, the ascertainable physical constitution of the
patient (especially when the disease is chronic), his moral and intellectual
character, his occupation, mode of living and habits, his social and
domesticrelations, his age, sexual function, &c., are to be taken into
consideration.

Repertory gives us type of symptoms which are such type of qualities of
that person which run through and through his personality in various
situations or circumstances ,in childhood, youth and adulthood....those
qualities
of a person which are unshakable or which describe him as a person
e.g.Conscience.,Mildness,positiveness,Exuberance.courageous,cowardice
Unfeeling,Hardhearted etc etc
the reason for these being important is these are characters which are
determined by the genetic makeup of that constitution So constitutional
remedy must cover all that
all these and many more things like thermals, generals, SRP,after
considering the remedy which comes out we call it GENETIC CONSTITUTIONAL
SIMILINUM We means all of us taught by Dr Prafull Vijayaker of India we are
part of a
group called predictive homoeopathy I got a boost in my practice and quality
of results in gross pathological cases after attending a workshop at
Mahabaleshwar near Mumbai in India
you can ask me for further details

constitution of the

social and

The Original German words are:

1)
"Als Beihilfe der Heilung.... "
[ 'As accessory aid/assistance/ for/of cure... serve the
data of .... for the physician .... ' ]

It does not say 'in order to choose the similimum ...
consider...' !

He simply comments on what kind of information a good doctor
is to gather when facing a sick person - *any* doctor ought
to consider these factors to get a full understanding of the
*disease* - proper circumspect case-taking for any
practitioner -
In # 5 Hahnemann is still far from any explanation or
teaching about similars and totality of symptoms etc ...

in #4 he just mentioned the importance of recognizing
disease-maintaining factors -
in #6 he comments on ' nothing but the altered symptoms' are
the true and solely thinkable signs and representation of
the disease -

#5
describes what kind of factors and information can lead to
disease ...
he does not write those factors are what is to be treated !
nor does he say one needs to find a similimum for those
factors - (be it life-style, or 'constitution', or miasma,
or age, or habits ...etc ) -
Only the symptoms will lead to a recognition of the picture
of the disease -

2)
The German word is
" Leibes-Beschaffenheit"
a translation simply as [ 'constitution' ] without further
qualification is potentially
mis-leading if it is to be interpreted as meaning the
'constitution/personality/physical genetic traits etc ....
as the term is commonly used in English - or at least that's
how it commonly is used in homoeopathic English these days
...

'Leibes-Beschaffenheit' = the *bodily*-/physical-/corporeal
'condition' / state of being/structural make
up/'constitution'/ -health-wise/vitality-wise ...
an Olympic weightlifter has a different
'bodily-constitution' than a petite fragile person, or an
emaciated and debilitated person suffering from cancer the
last three years .... and thus will require different
approach to cure - and any proper doc ought to take note of
that when attempting to design any treatment for either of
these different people -

especially I feel comfortable with reading it this way, as
Hahnemann qualifies it with
"(vorzueglich des langwierig Kranken)
[' especially of the long-term/chronically/protractedly sick
person']
which seems to indicate he is talking of considering the
bodily condition and vitality of someone who has been sick
for a long time and may be weakened and fragile and depleted
and with little vitality left ... as this should be
considered by a physician regards an
accessory aid in order to find appropriate curative measures
...

Still no word of potentized remedies or matching a similimum
...

And even if one were to interpret Hahnemann's
" Leibes-Beschaffenheit... and ... emotional and mental
character, life-style, habits, .... "
to refer to an idea of 'constitutional-type' -
it is in #5, which is about circumstances and factors that
can lead to illness and that it would do well to consider
those factors as a doctor generally -
but is not by any far stretch a confirmation for the concept
of
*treating the constitution* or of *finding a
'constitutional' remedy* -

( of course, it is not a negation of the concept, either -
just that it seems rather futile
to attempt quoting *Hahnemann* for proof of it)

take care
