well i read it as he is merely emphasising to take into account the mental
state along with physical symptoms, even in cases of obvious physical

Hello Arun and Andrew,
Yes, very good Andrew, your memory is not that bad after all.
Constitutional mind picture is not the same as 'mental state of disposition'.
have made a beginning..... Some portions of his >MM also gives the same
idea.
yes the embryo is in puls and nux descriptions. but that's all so far. the
first use of the word 'constitution' is in Dunham as far as i can see. its a
long long way from Coulter.
Look closer: APH5:
"Useful to the physician in assisting him to cure are the particulars of the most probable exciting cause of the acute disease, as also the most significant points in the whole history of the chronic disease, to enable him to discover its fundamental cause, which is generally due to a chronic miasm. In these investigations, the ascertainable physical constitution of the patient (especially when the disease is chronic), his moral and intellectual character, his occupation, mode of living and habits, his social and domestic relations, his age, sexual function, etc., are to be taken into consideration."
Coulter is OK, and in the Hahnemannian tradition, but you must know when and how you must use this information. A good constitutional picture includes beside the pathology, normal even positive aspects/ characteristics as well. And these are in disease on that constitutional level equal important for the selection of the correct remedy, because here disease an health are two sides of the same coin. The same constition is in use to express health and symptoms.
But there are more disease possibilities, acuut, miasmatic cause, etc. or combinations, all mentioned in this Aphorism, we must not forget them of course.
Kind regards, Piet
