To Hekla or not to hekla - calcaneal spur, bone spur, osteophyte, exostosis

Post by Dave Hartley »

HI Barbara,

Hope you're doing well-

With the following big list of caveats...
Here's a big list of homeopathic pharmacies
www.homeopathyhome.com/directory/usa/pharmacies.shtml

I'm sure you realize that casually taking medicine is not such a good idea.
To do so with homeopathy's potentized medicines is somewhat akin to the idea
of just walking into a drugstore and having the allopathic pharmacist give
you whatever your friend told you cured his cousin Bob. You are 'protected'
from this option by Big Brother, with exceptions made for OTC (over the
counter) medicines, which, thru interesting legislation & careful adherence
to the letter of the law, include homeopathy's potentized medicines,
popularly (and incorrectly) referred to as "homeopathic remedies." Using
remedies conservatively, in accordance with OTC labelling, is supposed to be
curative or harmless, which may appear so, especially to the casual
observer...

Casually using what may actually be either homeopathic- or UNhomeopathic
remedies.. may result in serendiptious cure (lucky chance; actually
stumbling onto truly-homeopathic remedy), or may have no perceptible (to the
layperson) result, or in worst case scenario.. might actually result in
considerable aggravation of existing problem, or springing up of new
symptoms... these latter situtations describing UNhomeopathic use- either
in the selection of the remedy, or *very importantly* in the
frequency/repetition of the remedy (if it doesn't seem to give any result
after a few doses - QUIT ..or better yet, of course- see a homeopath in the
first place.. a time honored dictum: "the physician who treats himself has a
fool for a patient") ... I offer you the following logical proof of these
statements..

Homeopathy is the art & science of cure by similars - etymology is from
Greek homois-pathos, meaning similar suffering.

In a nutshell, this means that a homeopathic remedy is one which has the
potential to cure a state of dis-ease
-IF it has the potential to CAUSE a similar state of dis-ease. The
intentiional empiricial-scientific 'provings' of the remedies PROVE that the
remedies have such-and-such potential to cause dis-ease (but are for obvious
reasons not carried out to the point of pathological afflictions.)
Additional data on homeopathicity (what states of dis-ease a remedy is
homeopathic TO) ..is obtained from cured cases - where a certain pathology
or other specific symptom is observed to have been cured by a particular
remedy.

A partial list of remedies which fulfill one or both of these criteria with
regard to symptoms pertaining to calcaneal spur, bone spur, osteophyte,
exostosis:

Conchiolinum, Thiosinamine, Medorrhinum, Valerian, Zincum valerian, Calcaria
floricum, Kali carbonicum, Chininum sulphuricum, Helleborus niger,
Colocynthis, Capsicum annuum, Chamomilla, Coccus cacti, Astragulus excapus,
Aranea diadema, Haliaeetus leucocephalus, Silica, Aurum muriaticum, Aurum,
Calcarea, Dulcamara, Mezereum, Natrum silicicum, Phosporicum acidum, Rhus
toxicocdendron, Ruta graveolens, Staphysagria, Sulphur, Syphilinum

One hundred & some symptoms which might potentially be CAUSED by Hekla/Hecla
if used unhomeopathically will follow in another post.

There is a tendency when writing to email listservs for some people to
forget that their ultimate audience is the WorldWideWeb...& beyond.. all
posts to most listservs are archived, and generally publically available..
therefore, IMHO, it is quite irresponsible for anyone familiar with
homeopathy to assert for public consumption the blatantly spurious notion
that a particular remedy is "a specific" in a particular condition .. if one
were to say it is a KEYNOTE of the remedy, that would perhaps be correct,
and would support rather than undermine homeopathic practice & philosophy.
If our audience were comprised solely of homeopaths, we could perhaps safely
assume that everyone would realize that "a specific" actually meant "a NEAR
specific, given reasonable confirmations as might be available after
professional homeopathic case-taking."

Having members of the public taking remedies on the basis of ill-considered
casual comments about chronic disease is not something that is desireable.
There is probably a 95% or greater chance of a negative outcome, both for
homeopathy and its place in the scheme of things, and for the person who may
be thus deprived of the opportunity to approach homeopathy more closely, and
with an open mind.

Please- do not consider self-treatment by homeopathy of chronic symptoms.
Find a homeopath to assist you. If your funds are severely limited, ask to
be treated within your means.
Generally, homeopathic care costs less than a Dr. visit with a test or two,
& prescription or three...
referrals to homeopaths may be had by word of mouth; by posting requests to
homeopathy listservs; and by the www.
