Does anyone have experience with bone spurs?
Can remedies get rid of them, or merely stop them getting worse?
Thanks,
Shannon

Re: Bone Spurs
Hi Shannon,
My sister had one on her knee that went away by itself. My son has had a
variety of homeopathics, mostly for acutes and his small one on his
clavicle went away also. For what it's worth.

Re: Bone Spurs
Shannon,
This is not constitutional prescribing, but Dr. Ramakrishnan, in the
October seminar in Boulder, recommended Calcarea fluorica for dissolving
bony deposits in general (such as in ankylosing spondylitis). To
specifically address heel spurs, he suggested 200C every 2 weeks for 2-4
months, or 6x bid. A friend of mine is currently trying the 6x bid for a
recalcitrant heel spur. I'll let you know if it works.

Re: Bone Spurs
Hi all,
Off the top of my head, I would think to look carefully at all calcarea
rems.
Some bits from researching Encylcopedia Homeopathica:
Bone spur = cured symptom (during proving of) Thios (authority: T. Grinney)
-----
Homeopathic Recorder, 1949, January
Conchiolinum is a potentized preparation of mother of pearl, matter
perlarum, found in oyster and other shells; there is no proving of it, but
Allens Encyclopedia of Pure Materia Medica, volume 10, gives a highly
interesting account of its deleterious effects in pearl grinders, showing
that pearl dust, when potentized in the homoeopathic, pharmaceutical manner,
is clinically related to bone inflammations, known as osteitis, and seems to
affect the ends of bones, more especially. Drs. Carl Gussenbauer and
Billroth were the first to call attention to the harmful effects of pearl
dust inhaled by grinders during their work. These effects suggest the crying
need for research by homoeopathic investigators and also that it may be that
in this remedy we have one which might prove to be of benefit in the present
unsatisfactory treatment of arthritis deformans. In an elderly woman who
complained of pain in the heel, the X-ray revealed a small, bony spur,
resembling the spur of a rooster. Conchiolinum in the third decimal potency,
a dose each night and morning, caused the pain to disappear altogether with
no recurrence; this was several years ago and is very significant, leading
to the justifiable assumption that the spur has at least diminished in size
or, possibly, has been entirely resolved; unfortunately, another examination
by the X-ray has not been made; final judgment must, therefore, be with
held.

Homeopathic Recorder, 1954, August
Calcaneal spur, exostosis
Medorrhinum
Case
A fifty-year-old fat gentleman had extremely difficult walking for three
months, due to an awfully tender spot under his right heel. The affected
area was tender o pressure and jar, and even coughing and sneezing would
hurt the part. There was an occasional burning and throbbing pain in the
whole of the right foot. X-ray investigation showed a calcaneal spur, a bone
excrescence, on the lower surface of the os calcis, for which an immediate
surgical intervention was advised. But, on scrutiny, the patient disclosed
considerable weakness of memory, irritability of temper, hurriedness of
behaviour and a rheumatic diathesis, which formed a complex of
constitutional phenomena upon which were engrafted the aforesaid locals-the
whole combining again to point to Medorrhinum. Medorrhinum 1 M, 10M and 50M,
in gradually ascending potencies and administered at long intervals, removed
the spur completely in six months, as no further X-ray investigation could
trace, it, and the patient experienced not the least discomfort about his
heel afterwards. Thus, Medorrhinum falsified the validity of the verdict of
surgical intervention and maintained the relativity of verdicts in medicine.

In my early practice, I used this remedy for Calcaneal spur based on the
rubric given in the Kent's Repertory.
*Extremities - Pain, foot, heel.
*Extremities - Pain, joints.
*Extremities - Pain, boring heel.
*Extremities - Pain, boring os calcis, continued motion, amel.
