Homeopathic formulary in an allopathic institution

Hi Group,

Today I received preliminary approval to begin creating a homeopathic
formulary for the inpatient dual-diagnosis (chemical dependency and
psychiatric) facility where I work part-time. I will be the only
prescriber and will be taking and treating only acute cases, primarily
for minor physical symptoms (e.g., sore throat, cough, sprained ankle,
etc.). This may sound like a trivial project, but it felt great to have
the full support of the conventional medical staff to go ahead with this.

Anyway, I am wondering if others on the list have had experience
treating homeopathically in an allopathic institution. Some of the
issues to be addressed are storage and dispensing of remedies, educating
nurses about handling remedies, educating patients (who are not
homeopathically savvy) about what to expect, creating a pharmacy billing
system, charting in the progress notes in a fashion that other staff and
the hospital licensing commission can understand, getting approval from
the risk management department, and last but not least, preparing good
one-liners to respond to inquiries about certain remedies! I think I
will have to ignore the usual cautions against taking other medications
or foods in close proximity to remedies because these patients are
frequently on multiple allopathic meds and can only come to the nurse's
station so many times a day.

Any guidance on this topic would be appreciated.

Thanks for your suggestions, which I will consider.

I went to the AIH link you mentioned, which announces a certification
course in acute care homeopathy for licensed health practitioners. Todd
Rowe offers a similar course. However, in Arizona, regardless of this
type of certification, MDs and DOs have to obtain a special homeopathic
medical license, giving us the designation MD(H). This costs an extra
$525 a year, plus another $150 a year if you want to dispense remedies
out of your office. This is over and above the usual fees for our
regular medical license, DEA license, etc. Because of this, I don't
expect my colleagues to jump at the opportunity to integrate homeopathy
into their practices unless they feel really convinced that it is
worthwhile. Hopefully, they will someday!

Hi Dr.
I don't know where you are located, but I would suggest that you
contact Michael Quinn at http://www.hahnemannlabs.com/ and discuss
his Quinn professional dispensing kit. It can put approx 1,500 rx' in
different potencies in individual dose bottles (at a very very low to
no cost) and can serve as a base around which other potencies and
remedies are added.

Hi Natrumur,

Thanks for suggesting Michael Quinn's professional dispensing kit. I
actually use his kit in my private practice but was thinking of
something on a smaller scale for inpatient use. Anyway, I will keep it
in mind for the future.

I appreciate all the input and support from the group regarding this
