Of these, Puls seems likely given relation between puls and constipation

skin affection?) caust or lyc (peacemaker) or Ambra (Wendy suggestion)
or other remedies come up.
===========================
Puls and Constip/Chicken pox

Frishmuth
Constipation: Constipation from disarrangement of the stomach from
eating too much rich greasy food. Obstinate constipation of alternate
constipation and diarrhoea. Children of a mild, sensitive disposition.
Great changeableness of the symptoms. Desire for and feels better in the
open air.

Hoyne
Constipation, when obstinate, in mild, gentle, tearful females, with
very bad taste in the mouth in the morning, suggests Pulsatilla.

Neatby
The abdomen is distended with flatulence, which moves about with
rumbling and gurgling, especially in bed in the evening, it is
sensitive, and there are pressing pains and forcing down towards the
pelvis. The stools are usually loose, preceded by rumbling, and are soft
and slimy, mixed with green mucus, and vary in colour and consistence;
they occur mostly in the evening and during the night. Occasionally
there is constipation, with difficult evacuation of whitish stools or of
dysenteric stools that are scanty, bloody, green and watery, and are
evacuated with a little spurt. Painful, protruding, blind piles are
produced which itch, smart, and are sore.

When the above symptoms are present pulsatilla is a very frequently used
medicine for gastric disorders, for acute and chronic dyspepsias, for
mucous diarrhoeas, such as occur in measles and

chicken - pox,

and in febrile affections of children.

===============================
CONCLUSION: SUGGEST THAT PULS BE STRONGLY CONSIDERED AMONG THE ABOVE
OTHER REMEDIES

==============================

I thought Wendy’s suggestion of Ambra was interesting, given that it was
a water birth (whale), in a remedy with problems with music and
defecation. The above analysis relies heavily on the accuracy of the
repertory and so ambra or other remedies may have gotten missed. Still,
Puls seems to be worth considering

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
from Wendy:
I'd suggest looking at Ambra grisea.

All these aspects are covered by the remedy: Loner. Loves ritual.
Sensitivity to noise and music as a baby. Weakness in back, ankles.
Joint
pains. Throat infections. Cough from throat pit with mucus which can't
be
shifted. Big focus on control of urination/defecation. Constipation.

Wendy

Ambra
(Clarke):
Ambra produces faintness (Moschus), nervousness, jerks, and twitches.
Reflex action is increased.
The patient has an embarrassed air, the bashful state is very
characteristic in certain connections.
Embarrassed in company.
Cough worse when many people are present.
As if in a dream.
Forgetful.
There is defective reaction in nervous patients.
Sensation of icy coldness in abdomen.
The pelvic organs are painfully influenced.
There is voluptuous itching on the scrotum and some rawness below
the thighs in the male.
In the female there is discharge of blood between the periods at
every little accidents, as straining at stool or extra work.
Severe itching on pudenda.
During urination, itching, tickling, burning of vulva and urethra.
Nymphomania, with discharge of bluish white mucus.
In childbed, obstinate constipation and tenesmus with bashfulness,
cannot make the attempt to stool if any one is present, even the nurse.
There is a tickling, spasmodic cough.
Cough excited by speaking.
Night cough.
Cough followed by copious belching.
Itching in chest.
The limbs go to sleep easily.
Finger nails are brittle.
Sweat on slightest exertion.
Sleepless from worry, retires tired, wakeful as soon as touches
pillows.
worse Warmth, better cold, worse from overlifting.
Suited to excitable, nervous children.
Nervous persons.
Lean persons.
Old persons.
Nervous bilious temperament.
"Dried-up" nervous persons.
"Thin, scrawny women."

From Elham:
I would suggest you study Mag-Mur from clarke.
Best regards
Elham
Mag-m
(Clarke)
While Mag-c. and Mag-sul. Are recognized old-school remedies, I can find
no mention of Mag-m. or Mag-phos. In modern text-books.
Mag-m. first appeared in Hahnemann's Chronic Diseases. The general
feature of Mag-c. appears in many symptoms, notably those of nervous
disturbance and hysteria.
The salt, says Guernsey, "is found in many mineral water, and in
sea-water.
It has a very bitter taste, and in decomposed by heat," The note
about the sea-water is important.
Mag-m. is like Nat-m., and Aq. mar in the relation to seaside
effects.
Nat-m. is particularly indicated in constipation, "biliousness,"
and generally, disordered health, which appear as soon as the patient
goes to the seaside.
Mag-m. is indicated when excessive weakness is felt after a
sea-bath.
The chief Localities of its action are: Head, right hypochondrium,
inner region of liver, rectum and large intestine, bladder, uterus,
heat, feet.
It is especially suited to: Diseases of women, spasmodic and
hysterical complaints complicated with uterine diseases.
Headache at menstrual period in hysterical women.
Women after suffering months or years from attacks of indigestion
or biliousness.
Enlargement and congestion of liver.
Puny, rickety children during dentition.
Men with disordered livers, and sexual disorders.
Teste, who places Mag-m. in his Ferrum group, says that Mag-m. and
Mag-c. "have been used for the cure of cachexia occasioned by long and
painful diseases." He says he has seen Mag-m. produce great improvement
in this case: "Hydrarthrosis of left knee, with emaciation of left
thigh, consequent on a wandering neuralgia, which, after having
commenced in the form of cystitis with (non-venereal) discharge from
urethra, had successively invaded the shoulder, left elbow, eyes, and
lastly, knees, where it had become seated." A connection between liver
disorder and nasal obstruction has often been traced, and Mag-m. has a
large number of symptoms in both.
The nasal symptoms have led to its successful use in ozena.
Once case cured had redness, swelling and scaliness of nose, and
sweat about the head and feet.
Mag-m. is one of the leading remedies in foot-sweat.
Burning in soles, evening, must put feet out of bed.
In liver affections there is enlargement, sensitiveness worse from
touch, and worse, lying on right side, tongue large, coated, indurated.
It is especially suited to liver affections in children who are
puny and rickety, and have eruptions about the eyes.
The constipation of Mag-m. is very distinctive, and has led to the
cure of many extremely obstinate cases.
The characteristic stool is knotty and conglomerate, like sheep's
It may remain in this condition, or it may crumble at the anus.
Painful urging before stool, burning at anus after.
As well as intestinal atony, there is atony of bladder: urine can
only be passed by bearing down with abdominal muscles.
The hysterical symptoms are marked: spasms, fainting, globus.
Bearing down in uterine region, uterine spasms.
Menses black or pitch-like, accompanied by pains in back when
walking, pains in thighs when sitting.
Leucorrhea after every stool or following uterine spasms.
Hysterical headaches.
Patient is anxious, restless, always worse by mental exertion,
during or after dinner seized with nausea, eructations, trembling and
faint spells, better by eructations.
Palpitation worse when quiet, better moving about.
Perversions of taste and smell are marked in Mag-m., and I have
frequently restored with it loss of taste and smell after influenza.
Among the Sensations of Mag-m. are: As if some one was reading
after her.
As if boiling water was on side of head.
As if hair pulled.
As if tongue burnt, mouth scalded.
Stools as if burnt.
The pains are mostly boring and spasmodic contractive pains,
dragging down.
There is much burning and heat.
R. M. Skinner reports (Med. Adv., xxiv. 383) this case: A farmer
had been treated allopathically three months for chills, which were
checked, but the man did not feel well.
Spleen very large, sensitive, felt heavy when he walked or rode.
Constipated, goes three or four days without a stool.
It was for this that he sought advice.
Abdomen distended, hard, especially in ileocecal region.
Cold on left side and a crawling feeling, like a cold snake.
Beating in umbilical region as if his heart beat there.
Mag-m. 20 one dose on the tongue.
At eight PM the bowels began to act and went on acting with the
exception of one hour till three AM
He complained next morning that the medicine had "almost killed
him," and he looked thin and tired.
No further medicine was given, and in ten days he had no complaint,
and the spleen was normal in size and without tenderness.
In a large proportion of Mag-m. cases the Conditions will give the
leading indications.
There is general hyperesthesia and worse by touch or pressure, but
the head pains are better by hard pressure, eye pains better by
pressure, and the menstrual pains better by pressing on back.
There is great sensitiveness to cold and disposition to catch cold,
better wrapping up head warmly, but the skin eruptions on face, head,
and eyes are worse in warm room, cough worse in room.
Most symptoms except headache are better in open air.
Sea-bathing causes bloody expectoration, great weakness.
Rest worse, motion better (this is especially marked and peculiar
in reference to palpitation).
worse Lying down. Palpitation is better lying on left side.
Liver symptoms worse lying right side, worse on side lain on.
(Also lying on left side causes sensation of something (liver)
dragging to that side.) Rumination worse while walking.
worse At meals (fainting).
better By eructations (nausea and trembling).
worse After coitus (pain in testes and cords).
Mental exertion worse.

Dear All, here is a case from Rhonda who would like some help with it.
Please post your ideas and advice to the group as a whole. Thanks for

Patient: 6 year old girl First visit 5/10/2002
Presenting Complaint: Persistent cough: comes from base of throat,
tastes
like mucous, had since beginning of Winter(June this year); sounds
croupy,
painful in chest on coughing. Mother gave a herbal cough preparation,
which
stopped the cough back in June. Returned 8 weeks later with a
temperature
and right-sided earache(took ear drops for this). Was given a course of

antibiotics, which stopped the cough. Returned 2 weeks after this to a
"full sounding cough", with lost of mucous which the girl couldn't hawk
up.
Cough << going to bed, lying down, and in the morning first thing. <
exercise. Cough is ok during the day.
Mid September(Australia's spring) began sneezing. Took chemist
anti-histamine. No times of sneezing attacks, can be day or night.

History:
Born as water birth, mother had healthy pregnancy. Homeopath and
mid-wife
in Wales, UK attended birth. Moved to Australia in May 1999.
1 year ago had Chicken Pox, then got severely constipated. No
homeopathic
treatment for Chicken Pox.(very little spots. Took Pain reliever for
fever;
antiseptic solution used in bath for relieving the itch). No problems

with constipation prior to this time. Bowels became such a problem
after
the Chicken Pox, she got severely compacted faeces. Patient was
"neurotic/fixated" about wetting herself at pre-school. She would have
frequent urination every 5 minutes or so, and only a few drops of urine
would pass. December last year given a laxative for a month, as dark
pebbles of stool being passed. After visiting a paediatrician, was
given a
Bowel Washout program for 2 weeks, which involved using liquid paraffin
oil,
and more laxatives. She has been on the paraffin oil ever since
December,
and is being weaned off at present.

Wasn't vaccinated until 12 months old. Breast-fed until 12 months old.
Given homeopathy for vaccine reactions(mother couldn't recall what was
given).

School - Loves reading and drawing. Could write by age 3. Has good
fine-motor skills. Walked before crawling. Good behaviour at school.
Works well alone, is a bit of a loner, but is okay having others around
her.
Loves to have ritual. Likes to work out disagreements between others -
likes to be a peace-maker.

Sleep - good. has nappies on at night as paraffin oil causes
orange-coloured seepage from the bowel. Patient deals with removing and

disposing nappy herself each morning.

Family History - mum is sinus, hayfever sufferer. History of cancer and

heart attacks in grandparents.

Ear - In Wales had glue ear. Treated homeopathically. Lasted 6 months.

Right sided. Had at this time a phobia of water and noise. Couldn't
stand
music.

Impetigo treated with antibiotics. Has had tonsilitis several times in
past
few years, always treated with penicillin.
Joints - visits Osteopath for slight scoliosis, knee aches, neck pain
since
starting school(mother thinks this is caused by bending over a desk).
Has a
small artifical heel insert in her right shoe to treat weak ankles.

Prescription: I felt she had "Never well since Chicken pox" so was
given 3
doses of Pulsatilla 200C over a 24 hour period.

2 days later mother reported cough had completely gone. No phlegm(?)

Second visit 17/10/2002
No return of cough since Pulsatilla.
Mother is reducing dosage of paraffin as only 8 days left on program.
Stools are dark, but good consistency. Sneezing less - not in daytime
at
all.

Prescription: Nux Vom 6c twice daily. Mother very concerned daughter
will
return to severe constipation, so wanted something in place for when she

stops the paraffin oil altogether.

Have gone through diet and eliminated processed foods, although mother
was
giving increased fibre.

Mother phones me every day or so. Are giving flaxseed oil and small
dose of
paraffin oil for 7 days. Great consistency of stool since introducing
flaxseed oil into diet. Mother gives abdomen massage each night.

Although I'm happy with the progression of the case, I feel I'm missing
something with the bowels. Any suggestions? I feel it is difficult to
really see what is going on until off the paraffin oil completely, but
mother is so afraid of going back to old ways.

Dear Rhonda, thanks for the case.

I would like to ask the following:-

.) why was she so fixated with the urinating

.) why was she so fearful of noise, water and music

.) what were the aggravations/reactions to the vaccinations, and which
ones
were involved

.) how did she react to the move to australia

I have to say I cannot see Nux Vomica in the temperament of this child
how
you describe her.
