cruciate ligament

My 10 year old dog will undergo surgery tomorrow afternoon to repair her cruciate ligament. She will also undergo an ear flush as she has impacted ear wax on her ear drum. I have prepared the ear with olive oil drops and will prepare her body for the pre/post op, and she will receive her constitutional remedy (Puls.) Can anyone comment on homeopathic/nutritional support that should be given during her recovery. I am thinking of ruta, rhus-t., arnica and perhaps bry. if indicated. Should I consider symphytum? I am thinking of giving the indicated remedies in a 200c potency, once a day. Irene, Russell, anyone...can you please comment,

Johanna,

No protocol, just give indicated remedy as indicated. Depending on which
procedure is chosen for the surgical repair may affect which remedy, i.e.
just cleaning up the tear and stabilizing the joint externally by tightening
up the periarticular soft tissue versus drilling holes in bones, etc.

Dear Russell,

Harmony is undergoing the traditional method of repair as opposed to the
TPLO. Question: her post-op remedies include Nux-v. 200c. Will this
interfere with the fentanyl patch? Do you recommend symph. immediately or
should I wait a few days to make sure all is well. If symph. what potency
would you recommend.

Dear Johanna, I would also consider Bellis Perennis(Boericke &
Julian). A repeatable dose of 30c every 2-3 hours (one pellet plussed
in one ounce water)for the first day after surgery and after that
dosing as situation presents. A repeatable dose helps match the
energy of the compromise to the energy of the remedy. If the dog was
younger, I would go higher in potency less frequently.

Johanna,

I am not sure there is a "traditional" cruciate repair. Over the years,
there have been many approaches and most have been found to be not very
effective long term. Actually, I know there are many who feel long term
results are not significantly better with intra articular repairs of any
sort, especially in small to medium size dogs. I don't think a remedy would
interfere with Fentanyl as much as the other way around. Again, I would give
only the indicated remedy, not based on pathology/damage, etc.
