Earthworms--Di Long--Lumbricus
Its properties are salty, cold
Channels entered are B, Lv, L, Sp
Its actions & indications are: Drains heat, stops spasms, and stops
convulsions; aids in clearing heat in the lungs as in wheezing due
to phlegm-heat; Clears heat and stagnation in the channels &
collaterals as in painful joints and reduced range of motion, and
hemiplegia; clears heat in the fluid system as in promoting and
relieving urinating difficulty.

Its essence is to 'worm' its way in the channels to relieve
conditions of stagnation, clear heat and promote action in the fluid
systems.

It offers application in combination with other herbs to relieve
high fevers which are associated with convulsions (uncaria); improve
respiration with the clearing of phlegm-heat of the lung
system(ephedra, prunus); painful swollen joints(morus leaf,
lonicera, paeoniae-red); hemaplegia(angelica, astragali,
paeoniae-red); pain of lower limbs incl. back(cinnamon-bark,
angelica, loranthus); painful urination of a hot nature
(achyranthis, gentiana).

Contra: none
Action: bronchial dilator, lowers blood pressure, sedates the cns.

This is herbal interpretation of oriental medicine

Hi Isali,

Thank you!
(Have you used it or seen it used for these things?)
Am I right that on these indications one would be using low potencies,
repeated as needed? And more in an "herbal" sort of way, rather than
constitutional prescribing?

Thanks!
Shannon

In spite of the fact the Dr. Ben-Jacob seems to be one of the nicest guys in
the world, and also seems to think it possible to integrate TCM &
Homeopathy.. the fact remains that this last is an opinion that is shared
primarily by NON-homeopaths... & TCM materia medica is off topic on a
homeopathy email list.

Confusing, isn't it?!

Please disregard the TCM materia medica, and search out the homeopathic
materia medica !

1. Lou Klein has done a proving of Earthworm, it is in Reference Works,
but I cannot post it because for some reason when I try to copy text
from that program, it always comes out completely garbled.

2. When I read the classes given by David Little, whom we all admire and
respect, we see that he is using intensively and continuously the Greek
Philosophy and the Greek and Latin conception of health, as well as
giving some Ayurvedic references. This in order to have a better
understanding and concept of the human being, its reactions to disease,
to elements, etc,.....
Moreover, many of our remedies have been "borrowed" from the field of
Herbal Medicine, lots of them being used without proving. Going through
Boericke's Materia Medica, there are lots of Indian plants that are
recommended according to their Ayurvedic indications, but in potency.

Why then ostracise TCM? After all, it too relates to the human being in
health and disease. The subject is the same, the language and the "lens"
through which it is seen is different, that is all. But if it can be of
help for better understanding to those of us who are either trained in
or attracted to TCM, then why not.
As long as we use it within the philosophy of Homeopathy (i.e. the Law
of Similars when indicated), I do not see why some aspects could not be
included in our understanding and practice of homeopathy.

In a philosophical mood today..........

Dave, I find this strict delineation between homeopathic MM and other
information about the same substance a bit puzzling in view of the fact that
our repertories and materia medica are full of information from toxicology,
herbal usage, etc, etc.

I see Dr J has already written in a similar vein re TCM, but there's a point
here about our remedies too.

An earthworm is an earthworm is an earthworm. However we encounter it, it
remains an earthworm and relates to us from somewhere within the morphogenic
field which we can recognise as "earthworm". Therefore *any* information or
understanding relating to "earthworm-ness" only enriches our knowledge and
understanding of its therapeutic potential - such an understanding being
every bit as important a component of the remedy prescription as finding
similar symptoms in a homeopathic proving. IMO we ignore it to our
detriment.

(And please note that I said "every bit as important", not "more
important"!)

Wendy
