Down's Syndrome

Post by gmastra834 »

Hi all I'm fairly new to this list,I was a student of BIH, didn't get too
much out of it maybe because it wasn't a one on one and it was
correspondence? Anyway, I have always kept up my reading and was online with
Patty and Rudy till that fell out! So here I am enjoying Minutus! I have a
friend who daughter's friend just had a baby, she is about 38 I believe and
the baby was born with Down's Syndrome, they live on Long Island, NY and I
was wondering what causes this and also if there is a classical homeopath on
Long Island who they can take there child to, thank you so much, Warmly,
Grace

Dear Grace, there is a lot of debate about the causes of Down Syndrome -
almost as much as the cause of ANY chronic or permanent condition.

As a chromosonal condition Down Syndrome usually occurs because of the extra
chromosone on number 21 (which is why the condition is also called trysomy
21). But it can also occur because of problems due to other chomosones such
as 5, 7, 13, 15 - maybe others I am not sure. Depending on which is
affected can determine a great deal of difference between individuals. The
so called 'mosaic' form of Down syndrome hardly carries any of the common
physical appearances and the intellectual function is not greatly disturbed.

On top of that Homeopathically speaking, every person is an individual
regardless of diagnosis even though there might be some very common symptoms
to take into consideration.

That aside, to answer your question - many researchers now think that it is
due to 'sticky' chromosones and not necessarily just age. Some people, as
they get older, tend to get sticky chromosones but if the tendency is there
parents of any age can be affected.

I will leave it to our american friends to let you know of a classical
homeopath in the area requested.

Good luck, and as a parent who chose to adopt a child with down syndrome
your friends are in for a wonderful roller coaster ride - no difference
really - having children is 'having childen'.

Best wishes, Joy Lucas

Thank you so much Joy for your response, does that mean that it is possible
for homeopathy to maybe be of some help this early in infancy to help the
baby develop better, or is it something that has to wait and see what
develops? I know nothing about this, and I just assumed like with everything
else, homeopathy would definitly be of help.
Does diet play an important role in what develops with the child? God only
knows today so many people don't know what's good for them, including giving
children too much sugar!
Thank you again so much for your response, and may God Bless you. Warmly
Grace

Grace,

There is so much that CAN be done to help with Downs children. Nutritional Suppliments specific to their needs, and breathing excersizes, etc... a lot of stimulus... You might want to check out the NACD organization at http://www.nacd.org They really have done wonders for MANY downs children, to help them function past what is normally expected, and to their fullest potential.
Be encouraged. They are loving and delightful, cheerful children!

Dear Grace, I would add that of course a good diet is important but then it
is with any child or adult regardles of their tendency or susceptibility. I
personally would only ever promote organic nutrition because that is what I
believe to be the best, others might have different opinions.

Lets also agree that there is nothing 'wrong' with a child who has Down
syndrome but a set of circumstances that might in turn release more
circumstances depending again on the individual's susceptibility - e.g. not
all children with down syndrome are plump, lethargic and mentally slow -
quite the reverse - my own little boy is a live wire, thin as a stick
(affectionately speaking) and an absolute whizz kid on computer games and
sports and reading (ok I am getting carried away with thoughts about him now
:-))), but you get the idea.

So I would suggest you wait and see and if the parents want to choose
Homeopathy then great. The individual case needs to be taken and assessed
and not prescribed on assumption. In my own practice I treat a large number
of children - I adore it as the cases always seem so easy to take
(observation being a critical asset) and aren't harnessed by years of
allopathy - young immune systems always respond well to Homeopathy.

Good luck and best wishes, Joy

I totaly agree with you, organics are the only way to go! I am going to find
out if they are open to homeopathy, I can't see why not. If it explanied to
them by someone like yourself, I am sure it will make a world of difference.
Are you located close to the NY area. If you wouldn't mind and you would like
to take the case, if they are willing, then great. I will get as much info as
I can, again thank you, warmly, Grace

Grace,

I think that you'll find that Dr. James Compton Burnette had a lot to say about this - mostly prenatal, but even after birth.... His book is very underpriced at Minimum.com.... I bought the collection in a volume called "The Best of Burnette". I don't have my fingers on it right now, so I'm drawing from a empty holster, but it seems it's Bartya.... or some other similar rem that he talked about a lot.... sorry I can't say it exactly... I'm in a hurry for church this morning..... see ya!
