Hello Sheri! You probably met this little girl as I never left home without her...
Here's the rest of the story:

At home, late at night I squirted gently into the side of the mouth a small syringe full of water combined with Aloe plus a bit of egg nog alternatively with a small syringe Reishi with water. I said good-bye to her in my mind and went to bed. About 2 AM I sensed something moving on my bed. To my utter astonishment, I realised the dog was on there, that not only had she had the strength to jump onto it, but she was licking the infected breast. I went back to sleep thinking I must have been seeing things but next morning, there she was, attending to her sore breast. I got up to make a tea in the kitchen and heard a thud from the bedroom. She came carreening around the corner into the kitchen and stood in front of the outside door, motioning to be let out. Door opened and she trotted, then ran onto the lawn whereupon she peed for blighty. The breast had ruptured leaving a gaping hole but behaviour wise, she was cheerful, walking and quenching her thirst. Over the day, I managed to get her to eat and then over the week, the wound healed from inside out as if nothing had happened at all. As far as I could see, she had recovered with no after effects at all.
I now suspect it was the antibiotics that caused the kidney and liver failure. SYNULOX/NOROCLAV (human version is AUGMENTIN, I discovered afterwards are top of the list for drug-induced liver injury as per National Institutes of Health and I believe the Aloe or the Reishi had somehow countered the side -effects.
I have some theories on how the mastitis came about but I won't go into this now as it's been a rather long post. I just wanted to tell you what helped us in the emergency. The long and the short of this though is, be careful of the antibiotics described above and next time, either Reishi or Aloe are possibly helpful in liver and or kidney failure and, as for myself, I now have a vet homeopath for the future. One lives and learns.
kind regards, Julie
