Doing your own chronic case

Post by Ellen Madono »

I am looking for opinions, wisdom, and experience.
I have a friend who is a beginning homeopathy student. She is a very hard working student and I am sure she has the full potential to become a professional. She has a chronic neck problem that is getting very bothersome recently. She says it is from an injury. Probably because she studies homeopathy with the computer... Who knows. I didn't take her case. She says Eczema is better after homeopathy. It happened after childbirth. I am just using her as an example for a very common experience. She is reading this, so your answer may help her.
I know she has emotionally bothersome and life-defining issues. I am not sure if her remedy choice covers these issues.
Should she be taking her chronic case? What are the pros and cons?
Remember this is about chronic homeopathic treatment and not acute treatment. Also, it is not about her doing the chronic cases of others.

Best,
Ellen Madono

IMHO, taking your own case, acute or chronic, is a necessary part of learning homeopathy. That doesn't mean you necessarily have to prescribe for yourself -- what's valuable is the experience of zeroing in on your symptoms and sensations, then sorting through to find the most characteristic and translating those into rubrics.

Since she's a beginning student, she should have some supervision during the process, or at least a critical analysis after the fact of how she arrived at a certain remedy. It might also be interesting to tell her to take her case again, say next year after she has more homeopathy under her belt, to see if the results are the same.

Peace,
Dale

Hello Ellen,

Do mean 'should she take her own chronic case'?

Regards,
Paul

From personal experience (yes, I do that to myself...), I can tell you it is extremely difficult. You have to be almost schizophrenic to be able to look at yourself and see all aspects, the good ones, the bad ones and the dark ones...I eventually needed Liz Lalor's help for the very last phase after tinkering around in a horrible morass for months...and the remedy was obvious, looking me in the face but I was not able to see it without being pointed towards it.

Yet, sometimes circumstances are such as there is no other choice.

There is an old saying “A homeopath who self-treats, has a fool for a patient!”

Been there!
