surgery follow up
Hi
Just wanted to share some follow up of my daughter's surgery. So many
of you were very helpful in
sharing experience/information.
The surgery went okay as the surgeon said. But the aftermath was very
difficult as daughter came out of the
anesthesia. I think it was typical tho. I could not get near her due to
a difficult nurse who seemed to want to
bully me. I won't get into that. I gave Arnica 200c the nite before
the surgery and didnt begin remedies until
after we got home from the hospital. They did not keep her overnight
but it took over 11 hours from getting
to the hospital till she could get out. That was another nightmare
where staff created drama that took at least
an extra 3+ hours to get thru. So it may not have been till late evening
before more Arnica 200c was given. Daughter
woke a lot and kept taking Arnica which I stopped in the morning due to
concern for proving. The pain from the surgery
would come in waves or episodes that were intensely debiliting causing
daughter to just break down crying from the
pain. When I could finally get some adjectives for the pain it was
burning and sharp prickling. I first thought Ars which
we did not have on hand but then realized it was more likely Hyper and
so did Hyper 200c which seemed to work. Had
her try to pay attention to signs of an episode of pain beginning and to
take another dose at that moment which worked
Yesterday at some point she reported throbbing pain, saying there was no
more bruising. Yea for Arnica! Belladonna 30c
was available so had her take that and instructed her to alternate betw
Hyper and Bell depending on the symptom. Really
strictly acute treatment. This a.m. she posted me that she feels more
energetic, was up and about washing dishes and
handling windows and her cats, etc. She is finally back in her body
again. My daughter is very independent and very
insistent on expecting to handle everything herself; does not trust
others at all to do the right or helpful thing. Her aide
was a very nice young woman but one who had no experience in helping
someone learn to deal with her disability, so
wasn't as helpful as was needed. So today she is ready to take on the
world which I cautioned against. It really is hard for
someone to take in the level of shock to the system that occurs with
such injuries and invasive surgeries. She was very
cold on Thursday when I was there so added blankets and gave her a hat I
made that is hot to wear even in winter but
this was both comforting as well as warming to her. She is still
wearing the hat today so I know the shock has not completely
let the body but and thinking to not do anything more about it since it
is only the 3rd day and improvement is great. More
concerned to keep pain under control and looking for the moment to start
Symph for the bone healing.
Not sure what to do or think about the metal hardware they inserted. Am
even wondering if some of the burning, prickling pain
wasn't from that metal itself. If anyone has any thoughts on this,
would appreciate hearing them.
Ellen--Daughter was definitely interested in the rubber bands you spoke
of but not sure about them now since they did not
repair the ligaments but removed the damaged ones. They pinned the
broken metatarsal bones to the undamaged adjacent ones.
Any thoughts on this?
One ot the best things that has come out of this, from my perspective,
is my daughter realizing so many people really do care about
her. People have given her massive amounts of equipment like crutches
and walkers. Neighbors have come by and are willing to check
in with her and help with housekeeping and shopping. Family who she has
been saying are cruel and dismissive have been calling.
And she even has realized how much she really needed and appreciated me
coming down to be with her for 2 days even while I am
going thru some kind on debility now myself. So am hoping she can take
this forward as a spiritual growth. She even mentioned trying
to come to Thanksgiving which she has boycotted for years. Really big
deal that it is even a thought.
So thanks much again for all the support everyone here has given. Will
reach out again if I run into questions.

Ah Tanya,
May those "silver linings” keep growing.
About the metal plate—some people do have reactions to the metal (I did), but if she wants them to take it out later on, after healing, they will—at least my surgeon made a point of telling me that, so I’m assuming it’s standard.
Sounds like she’s doing a terrific bounce-back!!!

Yes, surgeon did say the metal could be removed later on. Have no idea how invasive that procedure would
be; ie, pain and disability. I would want it out but don't know if daughter will want to go thru that.
Did you take your metal out?

Re: surgery follow up
Hi Tanya,
No matter what the surgeons did, the structure of your daughter's foot is no longer the same. So, she has to get what she has left to realign. If she has joint mobility, it will happen naturally. For that purpose, it is good that she has the courage to move around herself. But, she will speed up the process and will feel more comfortable if she has the belts adding pressure and a little support.
My feeling is the belts give pressure in a limited area, unlike supports. They support, but more important, they add pressure in a limited area. Like shiatsu, it increases blood flow. Shiatsu does not work so well if the area of pressure is too wide. That broad area massage has a different function. Pointed pressure opens up some of the congestion that Dr. Roz has been describing. It can be painful, so she has to start with small bands.
This is a totally different subject, but... I think it is relevant.
I have pasted a list of Scott Sonnon's videos on youtube. His experience and method is: to open up all the joints, not just the problem joints. Increase joint mobility to increase blood flow.
What is his experience? He was in the former Soviet Union with a herniated disc in a weightlifting competition. He could not get out of bed. Much less fly home. An Olympic doctor came to his bed and started him moving finger, wrists, and moved down his spine from top to bottom. That got him walking and on the plane in 4 days. He does amazing yoga and martial arts so has no back problem apparently.
I personally have the same experience now that I did his exercises. After doing his simple exercises for 1 week, 30 years of pain in my inguinal crease has nearly disappeared. I notice the change right away when I loosen up distant areas like my neck and shoulders. The other day, I lifted up into a full backbend without even thinking about the fact that I have not been able to do that since I had kids nearly 40 years ago. It is because of these joint mobility exercises. I have no cartilage between my 4th and 5th lumbar. I have spent so many days on my back because I can't walk. I can't tell you how grateful I am for this hint. So, I am sharing it.
It would be fun to hear if anyone gets the results I got.
I am using this program with patients who have relevant problems. Homeopathy can't fix everything, or I am not that good as a prescriber. This is so simple, I would rather spend my homeopathy skills on other more difficult problems.
Blessings,
Ellen
Why intuflow. Watch both videos for a full introduction of the reasoning behind joint mobility.
More advanced flow

On the mat
There are lots of other teachers out there, but these are the one’s who helped me with the general concept.

For people limited to sitting a 3 part series
A free booklet for rehabilitation. Mostly the same as the above videos
Intermediate (When I was beginning, it helped me to look a head so I could see where I was going. Also, in many cases, I could do this intermediate stuff and it was more entertaining. Fun is important.)
Intermediate part 1 mobility Neck

4 corner balance
5 joint mobility
6 joint mobility on the mat
More talk about how to work out in this series and some moves.

Re: surgery follow up
I did have it out, because I realized it wasn’t “playing well” with me.
It was DEFINITELY not fun having it out — another surgery — but a whole lot less awful than the original injury and repair had been, and definitely worth it. I felt better VERY fast after it got out.
I’d been very low-energy ever since the surgery (nearly a year on), and then had started to notice MS-like symptoms (tingly sensations and then severe heat intolerance), and read that MS is in fact a reaction that some people have to titanium. The tingly sensations had begun directly in the area of the plate, then over time in higher and higher parts of my leg and then torso—which I think is the only reason why I finally decided that must be the cause—and turned out that it was.
Apparently most people really don’t have trouble with titanium, but some do.
So—I’d say not to worry, but just to be aware.

No plussing at this point. Daughter would not handle the liquid when she came back from the hospital
but she may do so now if we are going to have to repeat a lot. As of yesterday, the Hyper was holding for
about 3 hours and will get an update today and make a decision about plussing.

Re: surgery follow up
Thanx for this info Shannon. Metal toxicity is really a big thing and I never believed titanium was as inert in the body
as we are told. It is being used in dental implants which really concerns me, too. I am glad to know your sensation reactions which
I can have my daughter focus on.
Interestingly daughter called early this a.m. to report dreams that included concerns about the metal plating/pins. I assumed they
were anxiety dreams but may have been stimulated by an internal sensation around the metal and how the body is reacting to it.
I am very unhappy about the metal in her but she will have to decide on what she wants to do.
How long did the removal surgery affect you? How long was that healing. Since it is her foot, not being able to walk on it will
be disabling in terms of her ability to work?
I will forward your notes to my daughter if that is okay with you.

Hi Tanya,
It is good to hear there is progress.
A comment on "plussing" -
I don't have a reference for this and it is definitely from memory.
When you know you are going to repeat the dose, it is not a good idea to keep repeating the same potency.
Some of us use a 6 or 8oz previously unopened (sterile) bottle of water. Drop in a pellet or two and succuss the chosen # of times. Give the dose of choice: 1 tsp or 1 Tbs or whatever you decide. Before each dose, succuss the chosen # of times. ( I usually do 3 succussions.) This raises the potency a little and meets the "don't keep repeating the same potency".
Hope this helps.

Re: surgery follow up
Thank you Leilani--I am aware of plussing and have used it numerous times before.
So far the Hyper seems to have controlled the initial pains post surgery. Right now
am assessing whether to stay with it or move on to another remedy like Calendula.
There is a jabbing pain which is new. It is not knifelike but more like being jabbed with
a screwdriver which is dull and radiating. It is clearly felt around the incision.
