I’ve posted in the Catwell group, haven’t heard any responses yet and need to bring a fever down in my kitty. I’ve followed a Ferr phos 30c dosing protocol - point.5 cc’s every 5 minutes times 10 doses. It didn’t reduce it enough. Irene’s suggestion for immunocompromised cats is for Belladona. Is it appropriate to follow the same dosing protocol as Ferr phos @ every 5 minutes? Can the dosing protocol be repeated more than once a day? In reducing fever are the remedies in part affecting cause whether bacterial or viral? I’m sorry to tie up the group w/this but need to get the temperature lowered. (we are going in for a blood panel)
Thanks for clarification,
Nan Wood

Re: Fever protocol
never want to lower a fever in a human
why would you want to lower a fever in a cat?

Re: Fever protocol
Sheri,
I'm just guessing if a fever is high it wouldn't be good to prolong a high temp over several days? Irene did provide a fever reduction protocol. Notes said Ferr phos 200 increased O2 in the blood. Also in mssg. notes if Ferr phos not bringing fever down in FeLV to go with Belladona (only have 30C which I've done this AM). This is a loving intelligent FeLV kitty w/ white gums, lethargy, some initial breathing pattern changes, probably dropping hematocrit levels as well as the fever. Final Lab report will take 4 to 5 days!
She probably can't hold up that long without help. She's been steadfastly healthy up until symptoms came on very suddenly (Thurs 9/28 last week). Vets usually suggest epigen injections, immunoregulan or possibly transfusion. FeLV can be complex. Perhaps someone in the group has worked individually with this. I'm at 6's and 7's. Any helpful thoughts would be very appreciated. If this isn't appropriate for this group, please forgive. I don't want to post inappropriately and perhaps someone can suggest an appropriate group or link or possible next step as I need to act quickly.
Best regards,
Nan

Re: Fever protocol
I don't know cats but can't imagine its good to lower fever, as fever is not the disease Hoping you have an animal expert here.

Re: Fever protocol
Hi,
Fever is a complex phenomenon. For human treatment, it has to repertorized in the context of other symptoms. I am not sure that a protocol would automatically lower it. Belladonna is also not an automatic remedy for high fevers. Are you sure that Irene really meant that the whole purpose of the remedy was to lower the fever? It seems like you are saying that other contributing factors are being supported. More O2 in the blood would probably be helpful.
Best,
Ellen Madono
