Do symptoms while intoxicated count?

Let's say someone is okay with someone disagreeing with them when not
intoxicated but after a couple of glasses of wine…and this is mostly family
members they get openly angry or visibly held back anger for
disrespecting/contradicting their views. Is this considered a viable symptom
to use in the whole picture?

The alcohol exaggerates what may already be there. You might ask their reasons for drinking. If they are self aware enough, they may tell you it is to manage anger. Then you know whether it is a viable symptom.

Of course, you can ask what is upsetting when others disagree with them?
You say mostly family. Ask them what happens when they drink with non-family members. Do they not feel the anger at all or are they choosing to act differently with strangers…

One thing to consider is how alcohol loosens inhibitions. Under sober states socially learned inhibitions prevail but
release when under the influence.

There is saying that goes something like "you see the real person in two circumstances: when they are angry and when they are drunk".

I would say yes, the intoxication unveils the deeper being (uninhibits them, unmasks them), so this would be the real McCoy...

Indeed, I remember Sheilagh Creasy saying exactly the same thing as Joe has stated.
There is often a reason behind any addiction or desire to get drunk – if you can find that reason, the case is almost solved.

Escaping from something a bad memory or experience may be the reason.
