Puzzle - asmathic symptoms. Advice Needed

Post by dace_sevcuna »

Hi All,
I have a puzzle on my hands. One of my cats has started having asthmatic cough episodes. The tricky part is, it happens only at night usually around the same time - between 4:30 am and 5:30 am. It can happen when she either sleeps or wonders around.
It has been going on for about 2 or 3 weeks. It started suddenly and never happens during the day.
There are a few things to consider:

- she has been suffering from chronic upper respiratory inflammation (she is a rescue) and I have refused to treat her with antibiotics or steroids. Feline upper respiratory nosode is given to her at any sign of sneezing or coughing but this doesn't help right now

- she has food allergies (poultry for sure). Nothing else has been confirmed or is obvious. She is fed rabbit and bison (no grains or vegetables)

- She has had a bad case of mycoplasma and was treated with antibiotics last year

- There is a stressor in the house (new foster Bengal and they do not get along). They have been separated and do not interact.

- She plays and moves around. Looks a bit depressed but, more or less, a typical herself.

- No coughing or difficulties breathing during the day or during any activity

- No discharge from eyes or nose

- Right before and after the episode it sounds wet and sounds like she is trying to get something out.

- Two other cats don't show any signs of upper respiratory infections

- Bengal had one or two hyperventilation episodes that might have looked similar to asthmatic episode but they were caused by an extensive physical activity and happened right in the middle of panting and gasping for air. I thought I will mention this in case that is important.
Other personal characteristics: cold paws (not normal for her), don't like other animals, loves humans, afraid of change, loves affection on her terms, gets aggravated when touched, doesn't like to be picked up, slow eater - nibbler, drinks a lot of water, likes fatty foods versus lean, very cautious, possessive of her things, itchy skin, nervous, bites and pulls her nails, jealous, grinds teeth, autistic, twitching
There are so many remedies out there for asthma and bronchial asthma but I don't have enough information to be able to choose a remedy. One that stood out was - Kalium Carbonica as it's talking about bronchial asthma caused by emotional disturbance and usually acts up at night around 3-4 am.
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated
thank you
Dace

With that specific a time frame, I'd take a look at Natrum sulphuricum, especially if she's worse from damp weather or lives in a house with a dampish basement. This is a great remedy for chronic lung complaints (in people that would be bronchiectasis, COPD, pneumonia).

Ironically, it's also a good remedy for people whose upper respiratory infections are worse around cats... so maybe that Bengal foster cat is indeed contributing.

Peace,
Dale

Hi Dace,

"Feline upper respiratory nosode is given to her at any sign of sneezing or coughing but this doesn't help right now"
How many doses have been given over what period of time?

Atb,

Leilanae
