I do not get the difference between digging deeper and work to be
done....isn't it the same concept with different words?

You (and me..) may be able to think of what would be best for the
patient, but that, *as such*, doesn't really help the patient.

I agree with your assessment, Henny. My impression of the patient of whom I wrote earlier is that she was unwilling or unable to go very deep. There was a seeming immaturity coupled with a tendency to isolate herself that I thought suggested past problems she did not want to probe.
