Post surgical issue

Post by Carol Orr »

My husband had surgery two weeks ago on his leg. I gave him arnica 30c the
night before and again a few days after the operation. He had swelling of
his foot and then his lower leg about 4 days after the operation. I gave him
200c around the 12th day...two or three days ago...He said that last night he
felt like he couldn't breath ..like his nose was plugged up and he was
restless and couldn't sleep because he thought he would die in his sleep. He
told me this is how he felt at night in hospital where he stayed for 4 days. I
gave him arnica 30c this morning. However, I'm wondering if I shouldn't try
to give him an antidote for the arnica(ip or camphor) if this continues
tonight...he really gets miserable when he doesn't have sleep..irritated and
impatient and unfriendly. Or should I go for some aconite. Any ideas? The
only medication he is taking is a statin which they said he had to take for at
least two weeks to make sure no little clots formed in his by pass operation
on his leg. The only pain he had been having was the staples in his legs.
Otherwise from this stuffed up nose....operation a success and he can walk
again, etc.

It sounds like Arsenicum 200c given in water, stirring before giving the dose.
Give dose every 2 hours, when he starts to improve give less frequently, e.g. 4 hours.

Arnica causes blood to clot. Why give a statin to prevent clotting and Arnica to cause it? If the Arnica causes discomfort, you should discontinue it.

Since when does a statin prevent clotting????????? maybe in the long term by slowly destroying the liver but certainly not in post-op.....

Hi Carol,

"............he said that last night he felt like he couldn't breathe......like his nose was plugged up and he was restless and couldn't sleep because he thought he would die in his sleep. He told me this is how he felt at night in hospital where he stayed for 4 days."

Do you think this might have anything to do with lingering effects of the anesthetic?

Atb,

Perhaps it was warfarin/coumadin?

I could not comment as to what a statin would do (without doing an internet search) and I would have no personal interest as I am completely drug free and advise all clients to get off of their drugs as soon as possible. I have encountered people on 12 or 14 drugs, some of which they have been taking for 20 years or more and eventually get most of them off of them. Allopathy is witchcraft and the only way to survive it is to completely separate oneself from it. You as a naturopathic MD would certainly have more knowledge of the action of statins than I. Another thing I would recommend is for all who use these drugs to do an internet search to learn of the drugs' actions, interactions, and side effects which are often the cause of the symptoms that the person came to see you about in the first place. My first question is, "What drugs do you take?".

I am not disagreeing with you, what angers me to the highest level is that IF it was really statins that were given for that purpose (and not a simple typing error from the first poster), then my former colleagues have reached an abysmal low in their practice, which I consider as a betrayal of the reason why we went to med school in the first place.

BTW, Carol - The first remedy you may have wanted to consider for post surgical distress and anger/irritation would be Staphysagria. I saw a man once who had weeping, swelling, and inflammation of a post surgical incised wound for weeks and despite many antibiotics and anti-inflammatories his wound would not close up and heal. I gave him Staphysagria and the next morning, the wound had closed up and stopped discharging liquid. If he has bladder/urinary issues as well, you can be pretty sure that Staph would help.
