Online Case STC/ Aug.03

Post by Sim Thiam Chye »

Dear Joy & Russell

My friend took Calc Phos. 30C in soln form on Sat. I told her to put a few drops in a cup of
water and take 2-3 spoonfuls from the cup. She report on Sunday that she had backache
around her lumbar region. She does have the pain occassionally during menses.

Is this an aggravation or what?? What should I advise her to do - wait and watch or
drink some coffee to antidote?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

homoeopathically yours,
TC

Dear TC,

As part of a learning situation I would want to ask you WHY would you choose
to antidote this situation, also how do you 'read' this sx in the larger
scale of the whole case, and finally what would you do if you couldn't ask
for advice here.

It is imperative that before you prescribe you have a good backup knowledge
regarding "after the first prescription" or at least someone who can
supervise your cases thoroughly. Even though the answer to your question is
obvious I would prefer you to 'discuss' your options, before someone tells
you what to do - you learn so much more that way.

best wishes, Joy

HI

just spoke to friend. Her backache was better today (ie. Mon).
But she had a right side headache, which is preceeded by flashes on the left eye.
The headache was mild - the pain was similar to what she will get towards the end of
a full blown migraine.
How to fit this into the healing process - healing crsis or aggravation?

TC,

I agree with Joy. You need to have an idea of what to expect going in to a
case so as not to lose your bearings. Chronic case such as migraines, will
typically fade away getting milder and less frequent over time versus just
stopping cold. If they just stopped, odds are it is a suppression.

Dear Joy

Thanks for the advice.
Typically I would choose to wait and see if the Sx is part of Px's
complaints/symptoms.
An aggravation shows that the remedy is a good fit, but the potency is too
strong.
The secondary action will kick after the primary action is done. (I learned
this from David's The LittleLibrary.
David, did I understand it correctly?).
I will only choose to antidote if the aggravations (both similar &
disimilar) is too much for the Px to bear.

I am sorry that I did not express myself clearly. I was trying to understand
the process of healing in this case.
How should I interpret the backache? what does it tell me? Am I on the right
track or not? For example,
if the Px feel better mentally and more energetic, I can be quite confident
that I am on the right track.
But in this case, I am not quite sure what to make of the backache.

When the Px experience a mild attack of migraine, it gives me more
confidence of the remedy choice.
It gels with Russell's note that chronic migraine will slowly fade away over
time.

Dear Russell, I understand the statement to meant that it will slowly
reduce in intensity and frequency of attack. Am I right?

best wishes,
TC

TC,

Yes, I would expect a decrease in frequency and intensity, duration, etc.
Although, beware that some individuals will aggravate 2 days before or after
full and/or new moon. So if patient is doing well and then has a set back,
check the calendar for moon phase before repeating.
