Potency for Symphytum for eye injury please

Post by Rochelle »

I know I am clumsy but sometimes I am a walking disaster!! I was picking ripe tomatoes today and one of the canes that I hold the plants up with managed to poke itself in my eye!! There was a little bleeding possibly from the inner bottom . eye lid. There are red streaks in the cornea and it feels rather sore and bruised. I did take Arnica 200 immediately but about 6 hours later I am wondering about Symphytum and particularly what potency!!
Thanks
Rochelle

If you weren't freaking out from the pain (Aconite), Symphytum would be the logical choice. I'd use it in the same potency as the Arnica.

Hi Dale,

I did do the 200 and also repeated Arnica 200 before bed because of the redness of the eye. The other thing I thought of which I did all yesterday was 2 drops of both Calendula and Hypericum tincture in an eye bath and I kept bathing it all day yesterday and during the night when I woke. Today it is a lot better as pain wise I have mostly forgotten it is there. However the eye looks disgusting – red streaks at the bottom on the cornea seem to be joining up and very red in the inner lower eyelid. Am thinking of another Arnica to try and stop that redness unless anyone has a better solution?

I'd try an eyewash of Euphrasia MT in distilled water. I've used this to clear eyes bloodshot from injury.
I had to treat a ruptured retina this past summer. The patient had fallen and hit her head with sufficient force to open an incision for cataracts that was decades old. Not a pretty sight, but Symphytum healed it nicely.

Dale

Thanks – I have got plenty of Euphrasia and will make it up as soon as the water in the kettle is cool enough. I didn’t use this because I tend to use it for itchy irritated eyes. Well done with the Symphytum.

Wow! Dale, can you say more about this -- was the symphytum in potency or as an eyewash, and did she take any other measures, e.g. to close the tear? (And -- do you by any chance mean a ruptured cornea, rather than retina?)

I don't have my notes here, but as I recall I gave her several doses of Symphytum 30c. There was no pain associated with the injury, nor did the cornea rupture (which would have caused pain!). Rather, an incision beneath the cornea opened and the iris prolapsed into it. There was also bleeding around the retina, enough to concern her eye doctor. (I see now I wrote "ruptured retina" when I meant "ruptured iris." Sorry!)
At any rate, the ophthamologist held off doing a CT scan because of the patient's age and precarious mental status. Later, as he observed the wound was healing nicely, he decided nothing further needed to be done.
The patient's eyesight has been getting worse over the years. I'm sure this accident didn't help, but because of her dementia it's hard to ascertain the extent to which it affected her vision.
Peace,
Dale
