what about asking the patient - why do you want the light on? maybe they will tell you what the reason is without having to interpret or assume we know what the patient wants. when i lived in london (origionally from southern california) i wanted the lights on because it was like the sun that i miss...

oh, wow, the squabbling over homeopathic principles is the downfall of homeopathy. the principles are in the organon - there is no other way to prescribe 'homoeopathy' unless you go by the creators - hahnemanns principles - or you are treating with a different therapy - which is not to say it is bad...
