"Crataegus is indicated in children's diabetes mellitus and insipidus"

This appears in Phatak and Boericke, reproduced in Vermeulen, Murphy (I
think) and in the Complete repertory as a rubric.

But nowhere is any reference made about the origin of this affirmation. I
have gone through all my materia medicas, all my herbal books from ancient
ones to the most recent ones, searched on the net, not a clue.

Does anyone have any more info or any idea where to look? or any personal
experience using crataegus in any potency for a diabetic patient, whether
for that indication or for another, and having seen a change?

Homoeopathische Zeitschrift, July, 1910, of this remedy thus: "With
crataegus, when it is indicated, we generally have dilatation of the
heart. I have given it in many cases with good results ... and also in
diabetes mellitus, where the dilatation of the heart gave the patient no
special inconvenience.... It is one of four best remedies in myocardiac
processes, having their origin in influenza, typhus, and diphtheria. I
have not been hitherto able to find any characteristic symptoms for
crataegus."

pregnancy, etc. The former is also advised for diabetes insipidus,

Thanks but they all relate to cardiac problem or cardiac complications of
diabetes. And when claimed to be useful in diabetes, it is a simple
affirmation, no explanation, that is what I am after.

References cover cardiac complications of diabetes and diabetes insipidus,
not mellitus.

In the Google search (which I already did), same thing; in the article about
crataegus ambiguata, there is a reference to a double blind study (not
cited) that showed no effect on diabetes mellitus.

In Homeo recorder issues of I think around 1945 there appeared an
article on an experiment with various medicines for diabetes. Cactus
G and Iberis ( of the heart medicines) appear there though not
Crategeus. I suspect all these cardiac medicines exhibit diuresis
and so could be classified under DM. At the same time this 1945(46)
study specifically talks about sugar increasing or decreasing after
the medicines.

Dear Hahnemannian,
It can't be said diuretics have lowering blood sugar lave [BSL]. In in treatment of Hypertension [HTN] diuretics are Rx by modern medicine. And they never cause hyopoglycemia in a nomoglycaemic patients. Nor reduces BSL in hyperglycamic patients. If a homeopathic medicine is prescribed on similarity of symptoms if it reduces BSL that is due to homeopthic principle & if happen to cause diuresis that is also due to law of similia.

I am not saying that diuretics have hypoglycemic effects. All I am
implying is that since not all remedies have been proven to the extent
of producing actual diabetes but probably caused diuresis, this
increased urination might have led to the conclusion that this could
be used for Diabetes and clinically some of them might have improved
Diabetes .
