Dear David [and any others who wish to contribute!]

I wonder if you can comment on this issue..
in any given chronic case, how to assess whether some symptoms, mental or
physical, may be due to nutritional deficiencies rather than the disturbed
action of the vital force? You could take this in context of 3rd world
straight-forward lack of nutrient-rich foods or the overuse of heavily
processed foods in the west. are there some general principles or is it a
case-by-case issue?

Dear Andrew, I believe that Symptoms are symptoms and they need to be
investigated, during the case taking as to their origin, their dominance,
their importance, relevance and hierarchy within the individual case. As to
what the outcome of nutritional deficiencies are just points us towards the
fact that we need to know as much as possible about pathology (mental,
physical and emotional) and other health issues which contribute towards a
healthy and harmonious life style. Thus, so called third world nutritional
deficiencies and their outcome, should be well documented and understood and
therefore become 'common symptoms' and form a less important role within the
hierarchy. In other words if prevailing symptoms can be healed with decent
nutrition then that is the remedy. Regards, Joy Lucas.

I have been practising classical homeopathy but I also have a background in
naturopathy. Over the years, I have found that certain cases are "blocked"
by the nutritional habits of the patient. For this reason, it is very often
important to take the time to assess this area during the intake.

The patient must understand that if no nutritional readjustment is
undertaken, the treatment of his/her condition will be more difficult, may
take longer and the chances of relapse may be greater. The nutrition of
most north americans is far from exemplary and it contributes to either the
cause and/or the maintenance of many diseases.

As for the need for any supplement (vitamins/minerals), assessment of the
patient's nutritional habit may be enough to give you insight on this
matter. Furthermore, it may be important to read on the signs and symptoms
of vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

Supplements combined with the right homeopathic remedy often give faster
results.
