Vermeulen Synoptic 2\GranitumGRANITUM
Granit.

Granite. Murvey Granite [near Barna, Co. Galway].

Granite mainly consists of potassium feldspar, quartz, plagioclase and biotite. The chemical composition of granite is typically 70-77 percent silica, 11-13 percent alumina, 3-5 percent potassium oxide, 3-5 percent soda, 1 percent lime, 2-3 percent total iron, and less than 1 percent magnesia and titania.

Quartz is the last coagulated mineral and fills the gaps between the other minerals. Light spots frequently occur in granite. They consist of feldspar and quartz. Granite is by far the most widespread of all coagulating stone.

It is used in many varieties as a building stone. It is a very strong material that can be polished to a shine, but cannot otherwise be processed very well, because it is brittle and hard.

Pink granite was prized by Egyptians for their huge obelisks. It was used in the Temple at Luxor; an uncut obelisk still stands in the quarry at Aswan.

Connemara Granite was used for the proving, and has one of the highest levels of radioactivity of the granites found in Britain and Ireland. Within granite there are three radioactive elements: potassium, uranium, thorium. The pink granite has a particularly high level of radioactivity.

Proved by Nuala Eising in 1986 on 15 persons [8 women, 7 men] with ages ranging from 20 to 40 years.

All the provers used the 30 C potency. "The effects of the remedy lasted for approximately two months. Most of the provers would at various stages feel that they were 'back to normal' only to find that all the symptoms recurred two or three days later. The menstrual symptoms lasted for two and, in some cases, three cycles." [Eising]

Lycopodium. Phosphorus. Nux vomica. Platina. Sepia. Natrum muriaticum.

Plutonium.

Mind. Digestive system; liver. Skin.

M Profound INTROVERSION and Withdrawal from everything and everyone;

+ weakness.

"Introversion with arrogance; a self-importance with a feeling or belief that others are trivial or petty. Indifference to everything and everyone except their own being and feelings. No difficulty in being blunt or rude; they felt no care for the hurt they might be inflicting on others."

Detached from everyone - like an outside observer.

After taking a sniff of Granite 200, Folias noted the following symptoms: "Within a week of this time I fell into a strange depression. I say strange because it was completely different to the type of depression I can exhibit.

Usually I lose confidence, feel weak and hopeless and withdraw from contact with others; in short a rather normal type of depressed state. This other state was very black but at the same time there was a strong element of egotism and misanthropy, very similar to what I have observed in Sulphur patients at times. This I feel was much darker though. I felt powerful and completely self contained within the darkness. There was anger towards others; a sort of scathing wrath. I felt nothing for anyone except anger and ill will. I didn't care to withdraw, nor did I care for company. There was a definite sense of superiority in my approach to others. Very easily irritated, quick to express anger with the feeling that I was right; a justifiable anger. I didn't hit anyone but felt it wouldn't worry me if I

did." [Greig Folias, An inadvertent proving of Granite, Homoeopathic Links 2/93]

M Aversion to company, to socialising, enjoying instead their own company.

But: occasional desire for the company of one close friend, where no social effort is necessary, a desire just to be with someone without having to talk or care.

M Quarrelsome, attracting arguments and fights.

M Sudden Fear and Panic attacks, without apparent cause, and disappearing as suddenly.

"With restlessness, have to keep moving, looking for distraction, trembling all over, hands trembling and sweating."

G Weakness + occasional bursts of energy [which would not last for long].

"The first word that virtually all the provers used was weakness. The weakness of Granite was at times a profound exhaustion - 'unable to move', 'scraping oneself out of bed', 'dragging oneself around the place', 'have to lie down'. At other times they experiences general weakness with no inclination to do anything, which at times felt pleasurable and 'laid back'."

Active at night, with high energy.

G agg Cold; even when hot.

G Profuse sweating.

G Appetite lost.

G Craving for sweets.

G amel Alcoholic drinks.

"She discovered that drinking made her 'wild' and 'bold' and very happy.

So she continued to drink through the proving day and night. She got no hangovers." [Eising]

"I found that I was drinking a lot more than usual but without any side effects. It made me feel good but even more isolated and condescending. I

also drove dangerously, especially when under the effects of the alcohol. I

knew what I was doing but didn't care to do anything about it." [Folias]

G Refreshed after bad or broken sleep.

Unrefreshed after deep sleep.

G Sexual urge diminished or lost.

G amel Lying down.

P Pressing pain in forehead

+ Heat; burning in eyes.

P Pressure and popping in ears.

P Lower back.

"At the same time my lower back went out. Completely out, locked up tight. It was extremely painful. It was stiff and tight all the time and at first I was forced to walk bent over though that didn't relieve the pain. The main modalities were as follows: amel hot shower, lying on something hard, lying on back, walking slowly about; agg jarring, twisting, exertion, in bed at night [unless lying on back]." [Folias]

P Red patches of dry skin, intensely itching and burning.
