Hi all,

Is anyone else dealing with this epidemic of pertussis? I have used coccus cacti with some success. What is anyone else finding?

is there any way to test for whooping cough (pertussis) immunity
in the human body?

Can I add a question to yours Tanya? I’d like to know how antibiotic use will affect one’s immunity when used to treat the whooping cough? When does the immunity happen?

Would anyone like to help me with this one – I have had her on Drosera and Pertussis for a few days – she initially improved then it is like this now – I am repertorising it myself but would like some suggestions also even for accessory measures – parents are exhausted – has been confirmed as Whooping cough.

The words between the *** are from the Mother.

****A full on attack goes like this. If she’s asleep, she will lurch upright in bed with a huge loud gasp/whoop. She will be in a state of complete panic, moving around on the bed while trying to stick her hands down her throat. She will keep gasping for air, long loud gasps. Then she will be coughing, and trying to bring up phlegm. She is then sort of chocking, while coughing and gagging all at the same time. This will go on for maybe 30-45 seconds. She is red in the face, tears stream out of here eyes. Her eyeballs roll back in her head, and she is panicky. When the attacks starts to subside, she kind of collapses, more so emotionally, closes her eyes, and she sticks her tongue in and out of her mouth like there is something stuck down her throat. When its over she lies down again and goes back to sleep

Nothing in particular sets the cough off. You can almost set your clock by them. Every 50 – 70 minutes throughout the night. And not so frequent during the day.

Her milder daytime attacks are mainly coughing, without the major hooping and gasping, with usually nothing much coming out. She is able to control the cough a little and has been trying to hold the coughing in. She’s becoming afraid to cough. Crying will tend to bring on a coughing fit, though she hasn’t been crying very much at all. During the day she looks quite pale. Her lips are cracked and split. I noticed yesterday when she had a cough her lip split horizontally and bled.

Emotionally she is pretty good. She’s just a quieter version of herself. Still happy but not so active. She is a bit more sensitive than usual.

Appetite is at about half of normal. She has lost weight. If we feed her “clean” food like fruit and veges and juices, which are now doing, she keeps it all down. If we feed her bread and more “regular” food, that seems to make her vomit the blood. She does want her normal food like sandwiches, weetbix muslie etc, but we’re not giving it to her because its too hard on her body. There has been no blood in past 2 days.

I haven’t noticed anything different in regard to temperature or how she likes to be dressed. As I mentioned on our first visit, she normally likes to be naked but seems happy now to be wearing clothes everyday.

I’ve still been using the humidifier in her room every night. Shes not sleeping any extra to make up for the lost sleep at night time. She’s always been a bit like an energizer bunny, in that she can just keep going and going regardless of lack of sleep.****

In Complete Dynamics Spongia in fear and whooping cough.
Once in badly affected family found Carbo Veg useful ,some but I think remember went a bit blue. It was not easy with that family to find a remedy.
Arnica is afraid to cough?/
Bryonia in vehemence and violence during cough but spongia might be an idea as from her actions throat must feel blocked? Jean

Many people get relief from two or three doses of Aconite in the first instance (I'd recommend 200c). The Aconite will help reduce panic and anxiety as well as inflammation of the pharynx which allows breathing a little easier. After an hour or so... it will probably be necessary to differentiate between remedies like Spongia (feels like a plug in the throat which can't be dislodged, wakes up in fright thinking they're suffocating, spasmodic coughing) or Hepar sulph (choking phlegm, loose rattling cough) or Bromium if the Spongia and Hepar are insufficient. You will probably have to alternate between any of those remedies *depending on the way the symptoms manifest* to complete the cure. (And make sure your remedies are from a reputable pharmacy of course.)

I would add Ipecac to the list of rx to study - the terrible gasping, violent cough, sense of a foreign object in the windpipe, bleeding and "child thrusts its fist into the mouth and screams"

one of my patients with similar symptoms responded very well to Lach dry dose 30c and then 200c. Husband had thought she would die as she could not get her breath when the gasping/coughing woke her. A few doses all was well.
We had tried Ars first which is the remedy that often helps her in many ways but in this instance the Lach did it.

I would be inclined to consider adding Bordetella bronchiseptica 200C
to the regime.
This is a very closely related organism (to whooping cough) from
which this remedy is made - whooping cough being bordetella
pertussis. They are so similar there is only one gene different.
The pertussis has a gene for the whoop cough
The bronchiseptica has a gene for alkali in the lungs due to lack of
alpha lipoic acid which it destroys (AND WHICH IS GOOD TO
SUPPLEMENT) , and causes a hacking - perhaps to try to cough out the
sore lungs.
Your described symptoms sound as much to me like Bronchiseptica ones
as pertussis ones.

I suggest the remedy as it follows the law of being a similar remedy
without being totally identical.

In fact I believe this is why cowpox vaccine works against smallplox
and why tuberculosis vaccine works against Leprosy - same idea of
similarity in both cases.

Personally I have used this remedy (and have it in several potencies)
in epidemic style outbreaks in cats and sheep, and in myself and
three other people who got ill while working with ill animals. I was
having a very hard time using traditional homeopathy alone, before
adding this about twice a day (not using it alone) to the regime,
long with the seemingly best indicated simillimum. Since then I
start this remedy at the first sign of an outbreak and it is over in
days. (It used to have a high death rate esp in cats.)
