How do I look up a rodent ulcer on the forehead in the rep please? Does it have another name? I don't know if what the patient has is a rodent ulcer but she has a knobbly lump on her forehead which continually bleeds and scabs. She doesn't think the doctor has noticed it but if he has he has ignored it!! She is an elderly woman so this is quite a possibility in UK!!

At the age of 77 it would probably be very slow growing and since she has a fear of cancer having survived a mastectomy 30 years ago it would be best if she stays ignorant unless her medical doctor wants to tell her. I'm not a doctor so can't diagnose and could easily be wrong anyway. Thanks for the rubrics

Rochelle, you can't assume this. There are many gentle ways of dealing
with this and how will you treat it if knowledge of what is going on is
avoided, especially if she has had a mastectomy - was this due to
cancer? I wouldn't be happy with "best stays ignorant" - she's only 77
and could have more than 20 years left to her life. Joy

I have asked her to mention the lumps on her forehead to her doctor next time he comes in to see her. She didn't mention them but I brought it up.

This woman has given herself the label M.E.which she has had for 15 years. She hasn't got dressed for the last year or two. She says she wouldn't want to get dressed as she wouldn't know what to wear and it used to wear her out. Another homeopath dealt with her for a few years but got fed up according to her. She says she would like to get her energy back but what I saw was a bright woman who was lively enough to get smartly out of bed to open the window on a chilly day when she described herself as always cold!! She has dry eyes, is continually putting Sno drops in her eyes and uses Euphrasia 30 every day!! She also uses Ledum 30 when she gets a pain in her eyes. This is going to prove a difficult case as I feel a lot of it is a mindset.She also talks about being confused and not being able to get her words out. She then told me that she wanted to come off Tamazepam (a sleeping tablet) but her doctor wouldn't let her so she takes 1/4 tablet at night BUT also in the day. No wonder she is tired!! I honestly think I will start but telling her not to take any more homeopathic remedies, give her sac lac to take and calendula cream to put on her forehead to see if it is possible to heal the lesion and reassess the case in a month. I will also make up some euphrasia eyedrops for her to use as well as the wetting solutions that she uses. She belongs to a group called " No panic on the phone " and when she feels anxious she phones them. She doesn't know why she feels anxious. She lives in sheltered accommodation and is well looked after by her 2 daughters by the sound of it.

She says she doesn't know if her mastectomy was caused by cancer. She found a lump under her arm and her mother died from breast cancer.

I would love to know how others would tackle a case like this.

Her disinclination to get dressed (to go out?) and her fear on the phone, as well as her age and her tendency to confusion would make me at least think passingly about Ambr as a remedy.... it's often a remedy to think of (like Bar-c) with older people who are losing function, especially when timidity is a big part of the picture. Also her attention to opening the window when she's always cold makes me think of that remedy, which is worse in a warm room (and often chilly). Any problems with diarrhea/ constipation? respiration/ cough? Milk? Warm drinks? Music? These don't all need to be there, of course, but they could be further confirmatory symptoms. Just a thought. It seems that her overall state might indicate a remedy for prematurely declining function in old age, in any case ("seem older than they are").

Oh dear this sentence didn't come over well!! She gets what she thinks are panic attacks for no reason and there is a group called "no panic on the phone" that people can ring if they are having an attack. She is fine on the phone. She also does not seem old for her age. She gets visual disturbances which are interesting before a migraine. "My eyes go funny and colourful and seem to sizzle as if I can hear it. I don't get much of a headache"

Milk ? she used to love it as a child but says she had a Vega test which said she was food intolerant to it so she avoids it. Not sure about drinks except that she says she is not thirsty. Music - I didn't ask. I was wondering about a Rx that takes to her bed like Moschus but it doesn't fit. Are there others? I will have a look at Ambr

Hi Rochelle,
Wouldn't it be worthwhile giving her placebo, getting her off the sleeping pill - and replacing her self-medications with placebo as well if possible - before giving remedies? It seems to me that the case would need to be "cleared" before even being able to prescribe effectively. It also seems from your description that she likes having remedies on hand to take, even if for the wrong reasons, so it might be worthwhile (if devious) to prepare some sac-lac containers under different names so she would feel she still has the control of self-medication. I've recently been treating an elderly woman who used to self-medicate as well, and I was never sure what she'd taken, when she'd taken it, and if it had conflicted with the prescribed remedy.

If you put together the weakness, skin ulcers, panic attacks, fear of
disease, colours before the eyes, insomnia, need of support from 2
daughters?, another homeopath got 'fed up with her' (was she becoming a
burden with constant phonecalls??) sort of makes you think of
Arsenicum. She is having food intolerance tests so she seems concerned
about her general health, is she taking any other medications, does she
come across as being nervous and anxious - if you are thinking of
moschus then she probably is. Joy
