Thank God the insurance companies that cover us are making good money with
no pay outs.

But OK let me put my cards on the table. If I was asked to refer someone to
a Homoeopath, it would be either someone I know directly or at least one
that went to one of the colleges I attended.

Some medial doctors make excellent Homs. For example Dr Shahrdar and some
of his colleagues are way ahead of a great number of people I know.
Some as has been mentioned and have appeared on this list use potentised
remedies allopathically.

As far as non-medical school homoeopaths are concerned, the levels attained
from different colleges in UK are different - some are classical and some
are combination practitioners. I must admit that their average clinical
knowledge is to a degree poor and quite a number would not be able to take
blood pressures or use an ottoscope etc.

So at the end of the day, we need some organisation to cover the
registration of all those who wish to be recognised as Homoeopaths and
ensure that they have passed centrally controlled examination to ensure high
levels of competence. This is easy to achieve for the future generations,
but what to do about people who 'qualified' ages ago?

The question that college need to ask about their final students needs to
be, "Would I send my nearest and dearest to them?". If the answer is No,
then they should rcv further training.

It is sad to see that DOCTOR - Homeopaths getting beat up for having
gone thru a rigorous training... is this reverse profiling at
work... Lay homeopaths do not become geniuses just because they are
Lay... There are good or bad homeopaths irrespective of their
medical and non-medical background...In terms of making informed
decisions as to what would happen if a particular disease is allowed
to progress etc. some medical background is expected...how else
would you make a prognosis - by dowsing?

I belong to the much-maligned MD-turncoat mongrel category of
practitioners. At the same time my teachers were lay homeopaths and
the best that there are. But it does not mean that I am not good. If
allopaths insist standards only for homeopaths and not for
themselves- then you might grumble. Each civilized country has
strict practice guidelines for even medically qualified doctors from
other countries. In US all doctors from anywhere in the world -
however qualified they are - are still expected to go thru a
rigorous process of examinations, training and CME programs. If you
just go for some week end classes,read Boericke and Kent and then
claim to know much more than the MD if this is not hubris I do not
know what it is... I am not against lay homeopaths but against non-
standardized practice- We have seen postings here about dream
provings, law of signatures, periodic tables, chakra diploma
holders, naturopathic medicines, karma etc. If we allow homeopathy
embrace all of these and more - how can you define what is
homeopathy and what is not... where does it start and where does it
end? I understand creativity is part of the process and even the
creativity has to go thru some authorizing body before being
available for general practice...

Nancy - I do not know if you have come across what Hahnemann had
written about how a homeopath should be trained... It is in his
lesser writings. Can someone who has the soft copy of this article
post it here?

Oh, I can stand it no longer and must say something!

Why is the term "lay" being used for the professional homeopathic
practitioner? I use the term "lay" for someone who has had no formal
training, even though they may be knowledgable and skilled, and who
prescribes for friends and family - a very different thing to the
person who has undertaken comprehensive training to the minimum
standards laid down by their professional body, and who earns their
livelihood and supports their family from homeopathic practice.

Are the standards so different in other countries to what they are in
Australia? Here, a doctor or naturopath is never be called a
professional homeopath even though they may prescribe a little
homeopathy - they are called a doctor or a naturopath. As homeopathic
practitioners we never feel inferior to them and to apply the term
"lay" to the professional is quite an insult.

There is a push in this country to have the title "homeopath" defined
and protected by law so other modalities cannot misuse the title. It
sounds as though this needs to occur in other countries also. I think
it has already occurred in some European countries.

My apologies to the many I have been unable to reply to in relation to
my "oversensitive" patient. Time has been short but the responses were
very helpful. How is it possible for some to spend so much time on
this list? I can only dip in every so often.

No matter what our speciality/ies is/are, we are all supposed to be
professionals.

Professional MDs, professional homeopaths, professional naturopaths,
professional herbalists or acupuncturists.

And some have multiple professional trainings.............

I visited the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital a few years ago and had long
discussions with people working there.
Their training programme is the same as those of the major colleges, with
Organon, Materia Medica, etc,.....but with a more clinical approach when
talking about diseases and pathology.

Their big problem is not being "classical" homeopaths, whatever that means,
but being registered MDs at the same time.
They have to abide by the standards of the Medical Council or loose their
registration and right to practice, so it is often a game of tightrope
walking....that is why the BMA officially supports vaccination: not to do so
would jeopardise their very existence; this is compounded in the UK by the
fact that there is a financial incentive to GPs who have a certain
percentage of their patients vaccinated....difficult to say no I guess....
