What would this rubric mean, and how would it present?
Of course it refers to an egotistic person, but how do you have an
"ailment from" a chronic state of mind?

Hi Shannon,
Interesting question. I have never used it myself, but I note it is cross-referenced
to "Honor, wounded", so perhaps it is about Pride (and it coming before a fall) ??
Ailments from pride maybe ? Await other input.

If the ego is disturbed in any way then almost ANY condition can
result. This is why the very useful and important method of ranking sx
should be adopted, in a way building an apex with the main sx/rubric
appearing at the top. For example, you might have someone who has
personality disorders that are rich in emotional sx but unless you
locate the fact that they stemmed from a problem lying within the
egotistical arena then you might end up never finding the simillimum.
Another way of saying much the same is that the individual has never
been well since an occurrence that disturbed the ego. This could be a
big event in someone's life, a one off that they know they cannot
repeat, they received an abundance of ego inflating praise and couldn't
deal with that or the deflation that followed so a diseased state
develops.
But the ego is a complex phenomenon and arising conflicts can take many
disguises.
I think when you encounter a rubric that you don't understand or it
seems strange then study the rx in that rubric and this will give you a
really good idea what it is all about.
Sulphur - elevated so high in the air their ego becomes delusional to
the extent they think "old rags are as fine as silk"
Palladium - forever needing the ego boost, seeks flattery, delusion
they are tall
Lycopodium - feels small and insignificant and desires a similar type
of flattery even though the simple act of being thanked makes them cry
Scorpion - don't really know who they are or understand their position
in society so they take on the persona of others and conflicts of the
ego happen
Calcarea carbonica - develops sx from almost any emotional situation
and their ego can be effected when they think that they are being
observed, there is anxiety about their salvation - this being the
ultimate ego trip.
There are other rx in that rubric but you get the gist. Hope useful,
best wishes, Joy

Ahhh... yes... thanks Joy, now I can see why it is cross-referenced to "honor,
wounded". I can now think of a person of my acquaintance who would have
benefitted from this rubric - after being sidelined at work, his personality changed
so drastically, it was if the original persona no longer existed, and the rubric
"Automatic behaviour" might have come up strong ... Still, one often doesn't get
the opportunity to help with friends and acquaintances.
Thanks for your clarification!

I suppose this ability to understand is enlightenment.
But i also think ability to be happy is to be in an enlightened state.
Been wondering about what it really means, Jean

Hi Shannon
If you look at the rubric Egotism, there are many more remedies than in the
one with ailments from. Here are some cross references from Ailments from
Egotism, that may help your query (from Farokh Master Cross references of
the mind):
Ailments from, scorn, being scorned
Anger, contradicion from
Honor, effects of wounded
Indignation
Moritification
Rage, insults after
Cross references to the rubric Egotism are more in the vein of describing
how that 'egotism' can be expressed as well as containing the above ones.
So, I guess, what is being offered by the distinction is that certain remedy
constitutions, are more likely than others to have difficulty being
egotistical, especially if they are also egoistic --- which usually attracts
quite a response from those who meet them.
In my opinion it is a form of delusion, as a compensation for some feeling
of lack --- and efforts to protect this 'stance' will cause problems for
someone who is not 'enlightened' as Jean mentioned, to why they may have
donned this 'mask'.
Even though following is not what you asked I thought it interesting so
offer it -:)
Here is an example:
Sankaran mentions Egotism as one of the active reactions that can be found
in the FUNGI
Sensations that may prevail with the Fungi include burrowing, invading,
digging, excoriating, eroding, danger, strength, and super human control.
Passive reactions to these sensations could be pitying oneself, feeling
awkward, foolish, silent delirium, atonia, laxity, and passive hemmorage
whereas
Active reaction could include -- to fight, strength, violence, rage, egotism
and courage.
The compensation would in this case show up in someones character as
exibiting courage in danger.
Then, continuing on from this, you will have say 'egotism' leading to
ailments depending on the internal battle to resist opposition and to
maintain this state.
-------------------------------------------------------
Also as an aside --
Series 3, 5 and 6 have ego issues within the remedies and Sankaran's and
Scholtens ideas on themes within these are interesting.
Best

Thanks, lots of interesting stuff!
The cross-references are so much more specific than "... from egotism",
and really sound like stronger ones too--I'll have to chew over them.
Re fungi--can you name some of the fungus remedies besides agaricus
(and I see there are several others of that family) and bovista?

Shannon
*** included in this group and maismatic classifications from Sankaran
are:
Malaria --- Boletus
Sycotic --Bovista
Cancer -- Agaricus
Tubercular -- Ustilago\
Leprosy -- Sol-t-ae, Secale cor
Some additional info
FUNGI
The vital issue of Fungi is exactly like its pathology of invading and
excoriating the normal tissues and surrounding area.
On Studying Agaricus we get,
"Generalities: Burrowing sensation" [Bng]
"Generalities: pain: digging up, burrowing, rooting sensation
[Complete]
The meaning of Burrowing is, 'A hole or tunnel dug in the ground by a
small animal'. The meaning of 'dug' is 'To make one's way or as if pushing
aside other or removing materials'. The concept of ‘invasion’ is close to
this and has a similar meaning.
Thus the vital sensation we get of Fungi is invading, burrowing, digging,
excoriating, and eroding
We see the sensation of pain Excoriating in almost all Fungi. Erode means,
'To eat into, corrode, worn out'.
Hence gangrene (where slowly slowly "Clostridium welchii, invades the
normal tissue) is one of the common pathology covered by many members of
Fungi (Agar. Secal. Ust)
Another common theme we find here is robbers, Danger , and sensation of
being possessed by super human power.
Possessed means, controlled by or as if by a spirit or other force. [It is
a form of invasion].
It has the feeling of robbers invading or coming into his territory.
(Agar.Ustilego, Sol-t-ae)
Another thing commonly seen is he can control a situation, which seems
dangerous to others, Sensation of strength and courageous [Active reaction
of Fungi]
